Chapter 5 You’re Fired

Facing her questioning stare, Myles calmly released the tongue-tied Annie. Seeing her small face redden, his interest was further aroused. Still, his gaze was as cool as usual, sharp as a knife as it swept over to the Head of the HR Department, scaring him so badly that he hastily picked up the file on the ground and retreated to the back to hide. He had thought Annie was just a university student who had just entered the working society and even checked her information. Aside from a single mom, she had no other background, but now he was doomed. She turned out to be Myles Jennings’ woman! If Myles knew of today’s matter, he could not hope to remain at Jennings Group any longer. “Mr…” “Give me the file.” The Head of the HR Department was cut short by a few words of his cold voice. Myles’s strongly imposing manner had shaken him so much that he did not dare to even move an inch as he obediently passed over the file in his hands. “Hehe, Annie performed the best out of this batch of interns,” said the department head. “I was just explaining some matters about work to her and expressed my hopes that she can work honestly at Jennings Corp.” The HR department head was a quick-thinker and was an expert at sucking up to leaders. Additionally, he had been in Jennings Group for over ten years before clinching the position of Head of the HR Department. However, despite his position, he rarely met Myles, so having stumbled upon this chance, he quickly composed himself and prepared to twist the situation. Hearing this, Annie looked over at him in shock. She had just been preparing to leave. Now he was giving a contradictory statement, and there was his reverential attitude too. Could this new arrival be a high-ranking officer in Jennings Corp.? Having thought to this point, Annie gritted her teeth. She did not care anymore. The file you’re holding is close to an entire year’s worth of the sum of turnovers of companies under Jennings Group’s flagship that I spent three days and three nights compiling. I’ve counted every single digit at least thrice. There definitely shouldn’t be any mistakes, and it has passed through the hands of Ms. Gayle from the Accounting Department. She also approved of the accuracy of this data.” Annie took a deep breath. Seeing that the man before her was taking her words seriously, she spoke with newfound confidence. “Just now, the Head of the HR Department was saying there was negligence in this data and it would bring losses to the Jennings Group. He used that to cancel my qualification for a permanent position. I’d very much like to ask you, how would the data for an annual turnover affect Jennings Group’s profits? Also, I can guarantee there are no issues whatsoever with this data, so on what basis did the department head fire me?” Annie had said many things, and by the time she finished speaking, her eyes were reddening. It was not that she did not feel wronged, but she was fed up that she never had the power to fight back. Upon hearing the last few words, Annie’s body stiffened. So she still could not escape the order of being fired after all. But he wanted to temporarily stop the cooperation with Lane Corp.? Could it be… he knew this matter was related to Sophie? Whatever. Annie gave up. She did not want to care about anything else anymore. She kept her head lowered and did not see the body of the HR department head suddenly collapse to the floor after hearing this. As Annie turned to leave with her head bowed, a hand on her shoulder held her back. While she was caught off guard, her body was once again pressed to the wall, and a strong masculine aura edged closer to her.
