Chapter 12: The Miracle of Western Medicine, Charlotte

Stacey merely offered Luna a smile, unbothered by the blazing resentment in Luna's eyes. Brysen understood the implications of his actions. He was in the crosshairs of the powerful Burton family. If he dared to rescue Luna now, he would completely infuriate the Burton family. Brysen was well aware that Luna meant nothing to the Burton family. Dealing with the Hampton family is a piece of cake for the Burton family. Unfortunately, Luna's sense of reality had been warped by Brysen's overindulgence. She had no idea of her place in the world. She disregarded the Burtons as insignificant. Once behind bars, she would get a taste of the Burton family's true power. Soon, the Burton family's bodyguards arrived. "Escort her to the police station. I don't think there's a need to explain the charges," stated Conor, his striking dark eyes glinting with icy determination. The bodyguards were swift to act, lifting Luna and escorting her out. "Stacey, I swear I won't let this slide, you little witch!" Luna hissed venomously. Stacey, however, remained unaffected. A few harsh words wouldn't hurt her. On the other hand, Luna had provoked Conor and was now being whisked away to the police station. Given the police's interest in maintaining a good relationship with Conor, they would honor his request and keep Luna detained for an extended period. That was the advantage of being Conor's wife. "Elodie, from now on, no one from the Hampton family is allowed in. Understood?" Conor commanded coldly. Elodie nodded, "Absolutely, young master." Just then, Conor's phone rang. After receiving the call, a hint of concern crossed his face, and he told Elodie, "I need to step out for a bit." Elodie nodded in understanding, and Conor left. Elodie turned to Stacey, "Go wash up and have something to eat." Stacey nodded, and then retreated to the bathroom and shut the door. She took out a toy phone from her pocket. It might look like a child's toy, but it was a real phone, a cunning invention by her genius son. It was an effective way to keep her secret. People would suspect a fool to be capable of operating a smartphone. A child's phone, though, was much less suspicious. "Yes, what's up?" Stacey's voice was cool and low. "We just admitted a patient who suffered severe head injuries in a car accident. Most doctors are too apprehensive to take the case. Are you interested? The patient's friend has offered a billion for a successful surgery," James Cooper inquired. James Cooper was Stacey's senior back in medical school. Stacey was a prodigy in Chinese and Western medicine and has made a name for herself with her exceptional skills and expertise. Her unique skills and the resultant wealth had enabled her to invest in various industries, amassing a considerable fortune. She was equally renowned in both Chinese and Western medicine. But no one knew that Stacey and Charlotte were the same person. Stacey preferred to keep it that way, especially her identity as a genius in traditional Chinese medicine, which she hadn't used for a long time. Ever since she was schemed against by the Green family, she had stopped using it. Now, she went by the name "Charlotte." "Okay, I'll take the case," Stacey agreed, "I'm on my way." "Great," James responded, his voice frosty, "I'll meet you in the operating room." With that, he ended the call. Stacey washed her hands and exited the bathroom. Elodie was absent. The table was laid with food. Stacey figured Elodie was likely caring for Madam Burton. She stirred the food with a fork to make it look like someone had eaten. Then, she stood at Madam Burton's door and announced, "Elodie, I'm tired. I'm going to bed." "Sure, go ahead," Elodie was used to Stacey's routines. She knew Stacey liked to sleep right after eating, much like a child. With a faint smile, Stacey ascended the stairs to her room. She dialed a number on her toy phone, "Sally, the Burton family's backyard wall is unguarded. Come and get me." "Got it, miss," replied Sally. Sally was Stacey's right-hand woman and the same age as her. Using a grappling hook, Stacey descended from the second floor and went to the wall. On hearing Sally's cat-like signal, she climbed over the wall with the grappling hook and jumped down. Once on the ground, Stacey hopped into the waiting car. Stacey slipped into the clothes Sally had prepared and peeled off her realistic facial mask, unveiling her true appearance. Beneath it were captivating, doe-like eyes, a delicate oval face, perfectly arched eyebrows, a refined nose, and rosy lips. Her skin was fair and clear, radiating both allure and innocence. Still, Stacey made sure to put on her mask. After all, there were people in Zephyria who might recognize her. She didn't want anyone to know she had returned. She then swapped her disguise for her daily outfit. Her everyday outfit was remarkably crisp and clean. Black jeans, a striped shirt, and sleek high heels gave a sophisticated elegance. Her crowning glory was her jet-black hair, soft, bouncy, and flowing like a waterfall. Many people admired her. Some even stopped her on the street to ask about her hair care routine. But the truth was, her beauty was natural. She wasn't bragging; it was just the way things were. Once they were ready, they pulled up at Zephyria Hospital. Hopping out of the car, she and Sally quickly made their way inside. A young nurse approached them, "Are you Dr. Charlotte?" she asked. Stacey nodded in confirmation. "Dr. Cooper sent me to show you to the operating room," the nurse told her. Stacey immediately followed her. Upon reaching the entrance to the operating room, Stacey was instantly drawn to Conor. What a surprise! Was he here, too? He must have rushed over after getting the call. At the door, next to Conor, was another man. He was sitting in a chair, filled with remorse and smeared with blood. When Conor caught a glimpse of her, he looked a bit puzzled. Stacey? No, that couldn't be. Why on earth would Stacey be here? But Charlotte's eyes, were eerily similar to Stacey's "Charlotte?" Conor seemed to have figured out her identity. Stacey just gave a nod in response. "Are you Dr. Charlotte? Please, I beg you, save my sister," The man latched onto Stacey's shoulders, his voice trembling with desperation. Stacey frowned, "Let go of me. You're wasting time and risking your sister's life." The man hesitated, and then let go of her. Stacey gestured for the nurse to lead the way. She and Sally then stepped into the operating room. Conor gently rubbed his forehead, attributing the tension he felt to his sickness from the day before. Such a cold woman couldn't possibly be Stacey. Yet, her scent was oddly familiar. That night, he decided, he would take a good whiff of Stacey's scent when he got home.
