He stopped, his chest heaving as he glared at Gabriel, as if daring him to contradict him. But Gabriel just stood there, his expression calm and steady, like the solid rock Baron could always lean on.
“What are you saying, Baron?” Gabriel asked quietly.
Baron dragged a hand through his hair, gripping it tightly as if he could pull out the frustration by its roots. “I’m saying… I’m saying we need to do something. Anything. I can’t just sit here and watch her waste away. If there’s someone out there who can help, I’ll find them.”
“And who exactly are we going to turn to?” Gabriel’s voice was gentle but firm. “Lysander is our best healer. The others are still recovering. Most of them were so exhausted from the war that some of them slept for quite a long time to recuperate, not to mention the fact that we’ve used the majority of our supplies.
