Chapter 417: Desperate times

Baron stared down at Talia, his hand trembling as he brushed a strand of hair from her forehead. Her face, usually full of life and warmth, lay motionless on the pillow. It had been days since she’d fallen asleep beside him—no, weeks, he realized, swallowing hard against the rising panic.
“Come on, Talia,” he murmured softly, his voice breaking despite himself. “Wake up. Please.”
He had woken up that morning, feeling her still in sleep, turned on her side with her eyebrows furrowed as though she was having a conversation in her dreams, so he left her. He smiled and pulled himself out of bed, covering her properly and even stopping the children.
“But I want to see Mama! I want to talk to her!” Valerie had stomped her feet, but Baron simply didn't care. The charms of his daughter were slowly not getting to him anymore until she stuck out her bottom lip and eventually let her brother inside.
“Mama is asleep,” he said. But, of course, his girl didn’t listen, pulling her brother
