Chapter 5 Husband? Darling?

Emily gave him a cold glance. She thought, ‘Are you bewitched by her?’ Seeing Alexander staring fixedly at Emily, Harper thought her charm was working, and Alexander must be thinking of how to punish this female prisoner. "Alexander…" Harper cooed, wishing she could press herself against him. Emily felt goosebumps all over her body just hearing that voice. It made her want to throw up. "Miss Hines, about Mr. Bob..." Emily raised an eyebrow with interest. Harper's expression immediately changed, fists clenched, teeth gritted as she glared at her. "Bob? The elder son of the Thomas family?" Alexander's gossip instinct was aroused. He thought, ‘Could it be that Boss likes Bob? No wonder the laid-back Boss suddenly has an interest in targeting this woman. She has gone blind again. That Bob is even worse than Patrick!’ Seeing that she couldn't hide it, Harper didn't want to admit to her relationship with Bob, so she beat around the bush and said, "Well, Bob and I are good friends. He's a good person." "A good person? Is that description applicable to Bob?" Alexander burst into laughter. He thought, ‘No way! I have to reveal Bob's true face to Boss. How can I watch Boss leap from one firepit to another?’ "In our eyes, Bob is simply a stinkbug. He changes girlfriends as if changing clothes, treating women as slaves, with some weird and perverted habits, and most importantly, he likes to force himself on girls. I've been disgusted with him for a long time!" Alexander said righteously, revealing Bob's shortcomings. Emily couldn't help laughing out loud. Harper had a very awkward expression. Alexander didn't notice Harper and continued to speak ill of Bob, trying to make Emily see through Bob's true colors. "Bob doesn't regard women as human at all. Any woman who takes the initiative to be with him is no longer regarded as a person in our circle, as she’s a vulgar …" "Stop! Alexander, that’s enough! Must you insult people so harshly?" Harper couldn't stand it anymore, stomping her feet and crying loudly. Emily couldn't control herself and burst into laughter. Harper cried with pear blossoms bringing rain, covering her face, and fled quickly. Alexander looked confused: "What's going on? When did I insult her? I was talking about Bob!" Harper's friends hurriedly explained, "Alexander, don't you know? Harper is secretly dating Mr. Bob." Alexander felt speechless. Emily walked up to him, patted his shoulder, and said solemnly, "Well done! You've driven away that annoying pest for me." Alexander snapped out of it, quickly pulled Emily aside, and whispered, "Boss, I thought you liked Bob, so I said those things to let you see his true colors. Are you targeting Harper because of Bob? How did you suddenly fall for such a scumbag?" Emily rolled her eyes lazily, "I'll explain it to you later." ***** Night fell, and Emily returned to The Hall. Due to her quick marriage with Ethan, she had been lectured by Alexander all afternoon, only managing to shake him off just now. Entering the living room, a faint smell of food greeted her nose. Rosalind Mason came forward with a kind smile, "Mrs. Thomas, welcome back. Dinner has just been prepared. I'll go call Mr. Thomas down." This title made Emily somewhat uncomfortable. Coming to her senses, she stopped Rosalind, "Rosalind, I'll go." Emily went upstairs and arrived at the door of Ethan's room. She knocked on the door. "Come in," came Ethan's voice. Emily opened the door and walked in. Ethan was sitting in a wheelchair, in front of a desk with a laptop on it. "Just now, Rosalind said dinner is ready. Shall I push you down for dinner?" Emily asked him. "Okay." Ethan closed the laptop and turned his wheelchair around. Emily met his gaze head-on, first noticing his deep and cold ink-black eyes. He seemed aloof, noble, untouched by worldly affairs. In her mind, images of Harper and the others mocking him surfaced again. Thinking carefully, she felt that Ethan was quite pitiful. His mother was a mistress who had left after finding out Aldrich already had a family. She later went abroad and lived in obscurity while pregnant with Ethan. It was said that Ethan grew up in the slums. Later, his mother fell terminally ill and sent him back to Aldrich before she passed away. Ethan grew up under the oppression of the other legitimate children of the Thomas family. However, he eventually stood out with his talent. Ethan was exceptionally intelligent and ruthless. After entering the business world, he quickly made a name for himself. Unfortunately, fate envied talent. Three years ago, Ethan had a car accident that left him disabled, with injured legs. It was said that the accident was no accident, but the specifics were unknown. Emily walked behind the wheelchair, pushing Ethan out. While waiting for the elevator, she cautiously asked, "Mr. Thomas, is the study on the second floor?" She had checked the third floor already. Besides Ethan's master bedroom, there were only guest rooms and a gym. "Addressing," Ethan's cold voice sounded succinctly. Emily was slightly stunned, "What?" Ethan frowned slightly, reminding her again, "Now that we are married, how should a wife address her husband this way? Remember, tomorrow night is my family banquet. I don't want you to slip up in front of the Thomas family. If you want to secure your position, you must perform well." Emily felt somewhat dumbfounded. She scratched her head and asked stutteringly, "Then how should I address you? Darling? Honey? Aren't these too cheesy..." She couldn't bring herself to say it. After a few seconds of silence, Ethan on the wheelchair spoke softly, "Call me Etty." "Etty..." Emily repeated softly. This title seemed acceptable. "Etty, Etty..." She earnestly repeated it several times to get herself accustomed to it. Her sweet and tender voice kept echoing in his ears, and Ethan unexpectedly felt a strange sensation spreading. "Shut up!" he snapped irEmilybly. Emily immediately pursed her lips, glaring speechlessly at the back of Ethan's head. Anyway, he couldn't see that she was staring at him. She thought, ‘This bastard! Clearly, he instructed me to address him like that, and now he wants me to shut up. So annoying!’ ***** Dinner time was relatively peaceful and harmonious. After finishing their simple meal, Emily once again pushed Ethan upstairs and returned him to his room. "Mr. Thomas, no, Etty, is there anything else you need from me? Can I go back to my room now?" Emily asked. Ethan remained silent for a few seconds before lightly saying, "You need to stay and help me bathe and get in bed." "Bathe?" Emily exclaimed in shock.
