Chapter 12 Truly Wanting to Marry Mr. Thomas
Aldrich's expression darkened as he lowered his gaze and quietly questioned, "What exactly is going on?"
His eyes didn't settle on anyone in particular, as if he was questioning them all.
Bob panicked immediately and hurriedly explained, "Grandfather, don't listen to this crazy woman! I have nothing to do with Harper!"
Emily chuckled lightly, "Mr. Bob, I haven't even started speaking yet, why are you rushing to deny it?"
Bob clenched his teeth, his face somewhat ferocious, "Your implication just now, isn't it an attempt to spread rumors about Harper and me?"
Emily's smile widened, "It's not spreading rumors, I'm just stating facts."
Bob was furious, "You crazy woman, shut up!"
"Bob, it's you who should shut up." Ethan's voice was low and filled with fierceness. He said coldly, "You have no right to bully my woman."
Bob was unwilling to back down, shouting, "Uncle Ethan, are you going to let your wife slander me like this? Is this your attitude as an elder?"
There was absolutely no evidence left between him and Harper, so he would never allow Emily to tarnish him.
He thought, ‘That damned Harper actually knows Emily!’
"That's enough!" Aldrich reprimanded with a sigh, stroking his graying beard thoughtfully as he asked, "Bob, sit down first. Honestly tell me, do you know Miss Hines?"
Bob didn't sit down. He was not in the mood to sit at a time like this. He immediately protested, "Grandfather, how could I possibly know Miss Hines? She's Uncle Ethan's fiancée, what does she have to do with me?"
As soon as he finished speaking, several people walked in from outside, led by Bob's parents, William and Kelsey Thomas.
Behind them were three people, Harper, and her parents.
"Dad, Mom," Bob went over to greet them.
At the same time, he exchanged a glance with Harper.
Harper blushed shyly.
Harper’s father, Larry Hines, didn't notice the eye exchanges between the two. He hurriedly walked over to Aldrich.
He solemnly shook Aldrich's hand, tearfully saying, "Mr. Aldrich, yesterday on our way to the City Hall, we got stuck in traffic. By the time we arrived, Mr. Thomas had already left. We heard yesterday that Mr. Thomas had already married another woman. Harper couldn't sleep all night because she was so upset!"
Harper also walked in. Her eyes were red from holding back tears, intending to deliberately stage a drama with her father.
After all, Ethan was already married, so even if she acted like she cherished him, she wouldn't be stepping into a trap.
In fact, before Ethan was disabled, she had a secret crush on him. But now she couldn't accept a disabled man as her husband. She didn't want to be a living widow.
Her performance today was mainly to avoid offending Aldrich and the Thomas family.
However, before she could utter her tearful words, she saw a young woman in a white dress.
The woman had her back to her, so she couldn't see her face clearly. However, she could tell that the dress was the limited edition one worth 8.88 million that she had set her heart on yesterday.
Thinking of this dress made her furious.
She thought, ‘Yesterday, that shameless Emily who had been in prison even dared to try to snatch this dress from me. If Alexander hadn't suddenly appeared and said some extremely insulting words to make me run away, I would have definitely confronted Emily head-on!’
But she hadn't expected that the person who would ultimately spend a huge sum to buy this dress would be Ethan.
Harper wondered if this dress was the wedding gift Ethan gave to his wife.
Thinking of this, Harper felt somewhat uncomfortable. If she had agreed to marry Ethan yesterday, the person wearing this limited edition dress now would have been her.
"Mr. Aldrich, I'm really sorry. I never expected that my being late due to traffic would make Mr. Thomas so angry that he married someone else..." Harper walked forward with a pitiful look.
Curiously, she turned back to catch a glimpse of Ethan’s wife, but when she saw the woman's face clearly, she stumbled.
Her legs went weak, and she fell to the ground hard.
"It's you!" Harper almost screamed.
On the side, seeing that Harper didn't greet Emily, Bob was initially relieved, thinking Emily had made up rumors upon hearing something.
However, Harper's reaction immediately caused Bob's face, which had just relaxed, to turn pale again.
Emily looked at Harper and smiled, "Miss Hines, we meet again. We had a pleasant chat yesterday."
Harper's bottom seemed stuck to the ground. She was unable to stand up no matter what.
Seeing this, Larry shouted loudly, "Harper, why haven't you gotten up yet? Is this how you behave?"
He had tried his best to please Aldrich and have his daughter marry into the Thomas family. He wanted to curry favor with the Thomas family, regardless of whom she married, even if it was someone like Ethan who was disabled.
After Aldrich had finally agreed, the wedding day had turned into such a mess.
Up to now, Larry still didn't know that Harper had been doing dirty deeds behind his back.
Aldrich's face immediately turned serious, his voice carrying a sense of vicissitudes. “Harper, do you know Emily?”
Harper climbed up in embarrassment and said haltingly, "We met at the mall for the first time yesterday, and I'm not familiar with Emily."
"Slap."
Just then, Ethan took out a stack of photos from his suit jacket and threw them on the coffee table in front of him.
Emily curiously looked over, and the main characters in the stack of photos were all Harper, and it seemed her friends were with her.
"I agreed to register my marriage with Miss Hines at ten yesterday morning. Miss Hines was late, and I waited for an hour at the City Hall."
Ethan sneered, "I had my assistant check. At ten in the morning yesterday, Miss Hines was not on the way to the City Hall but in a cafe with a few friends. After that, they went to a restaurant, a mall, and then back home."
Emily widened her eyes, not expecting Ethan to have prepared evidence long ago.
Larry rushed forward, looking at the photos in disbelief. He said, "This can't be from yesterday. Harper told me she was stuck in traffic on the way. She really wanted to marry you and take good care of you in the future. You've married someone else now. How can you frame her like this?"
Emily suddenly wanted to laugh. It seemed that Larry was still deceived by his daughter.
She couldn't help but laugh out loud, "Mr. Hines, I have a video from yesterday afternoon in the mall. Would you like to see it?"
Emily pulled up the video footage that she originally took with the intention to mock Alexander. She didn't expect it to come in handy now.
She opened her phone and played the surveillance video in front of everyone.
Soon, Harper's shy voice came through the speakerphone. "It's okay, Bob will protect me. Bob and I are a perfect match. If my father hadn't promised Mr. Aldrich behind my back, how could I be willing to marry that cripple, Ethan?"
