Chapter 9

A hint of remorse came over Mr. Lawrence's pale, old face. He had met Tiffany a few times before and at the recommendation of an old friend no less. He was quite fond of her and had initially wanted to matchmake Tyler with her, but later realized that his disappointing grandson was not a match. To his surprise, she ended up getting married to that boy from the Blake family. "With your status, you didn’t have to do a ward-off wedding, so why did you?" After saying that, he felt it was presumptuous of him, and he smiled apologetically. Tiffany took out the golden needles as she answered him, "At first, I didn't want to agree to this marriage." Mr. Lawrence lay down. Once she inserted a golden needle into his trigger point, she took out a few more and quickly stuck them into another two trigger points. "There’s no need to find the person I asked you to look for anymore." "Have you given up?" "I’ve found that person." Old Master Lawrence cracked a smile. "Congratulations." "Thank you. I’m sorry for what happened last night." It was true what Tyler said. It was the feud between her and Jessie that implicated someone innocent and caused him to suffer an accident he did not deserve. Mr. Lawrence smiled and said it was fine. The needles required half an hour to administer, so since she could not leave until then, she simply sat by the side to chat with Mr. Lawrence. Unable to resist his enthusiasm, Tiffany and he exchanged contacts and added each other on WhatsApp. The ones waiting outside had grown impatient quite some time ago, but they kept being stopped by Mr. Lawrence when they tried to come in. When Tiffany opened the door, Tyler was the first to rush in. Although she was standing at the door, she could still hear Mr. Lawrence criticizing his grandson. Micah had already left, and Jessie and Julian were the only ones left in the corridor. "Uncle, she's the one who ruined my face." Julian wore a playful smile with a hint of recklessness. "What do you want to do about it, then?" "I want to ruin her face too." Julian let out a ‘tsk’ and looked at her incredulously. "Jessie, when did you become so vicious? In my heart, you’ve always been kind and forgiving, so how can you say such things? "If my sister knows this is what you’ve become, she’ll be very disappointed. The old man at home is religious and preaches repaying grievances with virtue. With the way that you are…" He looked her up and down, his face full of disappointment. Jessie’s face had gone completely pale. In a moment of self-satisfaction, she had forgotten to put on her usual façade. She had thought her uncle would dote on her and come to her defense. To her surprise, it backfired. She hurriedly changed her tone. "Uncle, don't be angry. I was too quick to speak just now. I don’t really want to ruin her face. "She’s my sister, after all. How can I be angry with her?" Julian gave her a look that said, ‘these kids need to be taught’. He wanted to set her right, but he decided against it when he looked at Jessie again. He then said in a relieved tone, "That's more like it." Jessie cracked a reluctant smile. Julian waved at her. "You can go back first. I'll set this ungrateful girl right and help you settle the score." With that, he reached out and pressed the back of Tiffany’s neck to usher her into the elevator. Jessie ran up to them under the pretense of wanting to de-escalate the situation, but in truth, she wanted to see how her uncle would teach Tiffany a lesson. Moreover, because of her own guilty conscience, she did not dare leave the two alone together. Once they were in the car park, Julian shoved Tiffany into the car, leaving Jessie without a chance to get in as it took off rather quickly. From the rearview mirror, Tiffany saw Jessie looking panicked and clumsy. Her lips curled up at the sight. The next moment, a smack fell on her head. She covered her head, frustration written all over her face as she got ready to complain. Just then, a piece of chocolate appeared in front of her. It was a classic case of beating someone on their head with a stick and then giving them a sweet. It just so happened that she loved chocolates. "You came back to South City on your own to become a ward-off bride? Tiffany Young, are you trying to kill me?" Tiffany pursed her lips and took a bite of the chocolate. Upon seeing Tiffany staying silent after giving her a lecture, Julian felt that he would sooner or later suffer a myocardial infarction from being infuriated by this girl. "Come back to the capital with me." "I won't." "Give me a reason." The bitter and sweet taste of the chocolate spread across the tip of Tiffany's tongue. "My mother died under mysterious circumstances back then, so I have to get to the bottom of it. Also, I should put an end to the things that Avery did to me all those years ago." She narrowed her eyes, revealing a slight coldness. "Besides, Jessie’s face is an eyesore." Remembering the way Tiffany had looked when he first found her, Julian could not find it in him to admonish her. Yulia's death and the things Avery did to her had become untouchable taboos in her heart. They even caused her to develop a bout of depression. Even so, they were not valid reasons for getting married so casually. What was so great about the Blakes anyway? Even if they were the richest family in South City, they were not good enough for his niece. He was especially angry yesterday after hearing how most of the guests at the dinner party looked down on her, defamed her, and despised her. "They can say what they want to say," Tiffany said while holding her face as she self-indulgently admired herself in the mirror. "How can we expect mortals to recognize the superior beauty of a goddess?" What was the point of troubling oneself with the criticisms of strangers? Tiffany reached out to rub her head gently. The feeling of her loose, voluminous hair was good to the touch. "Tell me, then. Why did you marry that Blake boy?" "He’s cute." It was unclear what came to Tiffany’s mind, but she raised her eyebrows at that moment. Tyler’s eyelids twitched aggressively at the sight of his niece looking like she had her head in the clouds. He brought Tiffany to have a big meal before sending her off. As he looked at the young lady’s wispy, thin frame from the back, his eyes sank. The thought of Micah’s face darkened his face with a grave expression. Over the course of the next few days, Tiffany would take time to go to the hospital and treat Mr. Lawrence. However, rumors spread that she was just a superficial person with delusions of crawling her way into the Lawrence family. Tyler began to view her in an increasingly hostile light. Tiffany was now keeping her needles. "I've given you a prescription that will regulate your body, and I won’t be coming by again." "What about the consultation fee?" "This was all my fault to begin with, so you can pay whatever you wish." Mr. Lawrence took up his phone and began tapping away. A few seconds later, Tiffany received a fund transfer and counted it. It had eight zeros. How generous. After leaving the ward, she went straight to the hospital’s chief of staff’s office. The chief of staff had a respectful attitude and always wore a big smile. "You want to skip a grade?" Named York Sullivan, the chief of staff was not only the director of First Hospital but also the vice president of the University of Medicine. When he heard what she said, he immediately turned on his computer and started checking. Sure enough, he saw Tiffany's name on the list of new student admissions. He was a bit surprised that under the guidance of someone as formidable as Master Xenos, it still took her two years to pass the university admission test. Even then, it was only a passing grade. Now, she wanted to skip a grade even though she had just passed her admission test and had not even started taking classes yet. Once she jumped to junior year, she would be in the same class as Jessie Young. The university had never seen such brazen behavior since it was founded. Tiffany saw conflict in his face and asked in a clear, emotionless voice, "Is it tough?" "A little." "I’ll go look for the dean, then." York rushed to stop her. "I'll do it. It's no problem at all." How could he pass up an opportunity like this to make connections? Tiffany thanked him, put her mask back on, and left. On her way out, she got blocked by Tyler. "Tiffany, you lying snake! What did you do to my grandfather? Why would he transfer 100 million dollars to you?” Tyler was furious. He just knew that Tiffany had an ulterior motive for coaxing him into a dizzy state during her visits over these past three days. Now that she had swindled him, she straight up robbed him of 100 million dollars. What a big appetite she had. "I would advise you to return the money to me as soon as possible. Otherwise, don't blame me for not holding back my punches.” Tiffany leaned nonchalantly against the wall, looking laidback. "I won't return it." Tyler got even angrier as he fixed one hand on his waist and took out his phone with the other to call the police. A short while later, Tiffany was arrested and taken to the police station. The charge was fraud. At a conference room in YU Conglomerate’s office building, Fred hurriedly pushed the door open and walked to Micah’s side as he whispered. "Your wife is at the police station." Micah glanced sideways. "What happened?" "She cheated Old Master Lawrence out of 100 million dollars and is being sued by the Lawrences.”
