Chapter 7
Deak and Vita walked into the large hotel suite and were amazed at how luxurious the room was for just two people. Vita went around the whole place, looking at all the bouquets and baskets filled with various treats and food. Vita was giddy with excitement that this was all just for them.
“I’ve never seen a place look this amazing before,” Vita exclaimed as she walked over to the window to look at the view they had from their room.
Deak smiled softly at his mate. “You deserve this and so much more, my love.” He walked up behind his mate and wrapped his arms around her. “I hope I will be able to give you everything you want out of life,” he said as he kissed her on the head.
Vita leaned back against Deak’s chest; she heard a soft hiss come from Deak. Vita immediately pulled herself away from him. “I’m sorry. Did I hurt you?” she asked.
Deak pulled her back towards him and made sure not to wince at her touch. The pain of the curse was starting to spread.
“It’s fine; you didn’t hurt me,” he told her.
The pain didn’t matter as long as she was close to him.
“I don’t want to hurt you,” she said as she gently stepped away from him. Vita wrapped her arms around herself as she continued to look out at the city before her. She was starting to second-guess herself about coming to this place. Maybe this was a bad idea, she thought.
Deak placed his hands on her shoulders and started to rub them gently. Vita let out a soft moan as she enjoyed the touch of her mate and his help in trying to make her relax.
“What are you thinking about?”
Vita shook her head. “Nothing.”
“Oh, my Vita, there is so much you need to learn about having a wolf as your mate and not just any wolf but a lycan wolf. We can feel your emotions more intensely than anyone else. I know something is bothering you. Talk to me,” Deak begged.
Vita sighed. “What if we don’t find answers here for the curse?”
Deak was silent for a moment and then shrugged. “Then we will search elsewhere for the cure. I’m not giving you up, no matter what.” he swore.
Vita’s stomach fluttered with butterflies as she listened to his promise. It made her feel good to know that his feelings for her ran deep.
Vita turned around and cupped her hand against Deak’s cheek. Deak closed his eyes as his wolf purred at the touch of their mate.
“How did I luck out to have you as my mate?” she asked.
Deak shook his head. “It is I who is the lucky one here.” he told her as he ran his fingers through her hair. “Your hair has been getting longer since we first met. I like it.”
Vita smiled shyly. “I had cut it short just after I left Tristan. I wanted a change. I didn’t want to look like the girl that he was in love with. But now, I don’t know. I don’t know if I should grow it back out or cut it short again.”
“Whatever makes you happy,” he told her as he continued to run his fingers through her hair. He smirked when he tugged on her hair, and she pulled her head back to look up at him. “Yes, as long as I can do this. I will be happy.”
Vita slapped at his chest but smiled.
Deak lowered his head and captured her lips with his. The kiss was soft and sweet at first, but then it became a need. Vita wrapped her arms around his neck as she pulled him closer to her. Her touch burned his skin, but he didn’t care. All he wanted at that moment was her.

The elevator opened as Deak and Vita stepped out of it and headed for the main lobby, as they had agreed with Esha.
“Glad you two decided to come,” Esha said to them with a smile.
Deak’s smile lowered as he watched the siren walk toward them. He had known a few sirens when he lived in Europe. They usually lived close to the water and enjoyed receiving gifts, especially jewelry. It was more than just their voice that lured a person to do what they wished. She could read their prey’s mind if a siren were powerful enough. Learning their thoughts and feelings, so they can manipulate them using their dreams against them. He never trusted them. They were greedy and self-absorbed.
Before Deak could speak his mind to the little siren, they heard the voices of their friends coming toward them.
“Where’s Madeline, Zachary, and Ruby?” Vita asked.
“Grandmother is still a little tired from the trip and wanted to stay in her room. Uncle Zachary didn’t feel right about leaving her all alone,” Gretchen explained.
Vita nodded in understanding.
“Well, I guess we can skip all the boring parts and jump straight to the fun places. I promise to have you back in time to prepare for tonight's party,” Esha proclaimed. “Now, come with me, and I will show you the best parts of Silver City.”

Madeline walked toward the large window that looked out the front of the hotel. She looked down and saw her granddaughter and the rest of the group filing into the car they had come in. Madeline closed her eyes as she said a small spell asking her ancestors to protect her family and keep them from harm.
It seemed like yesterday that she was here as a young girl venturing out and having a girl’s weekend with her friends in the glittering city. The place hadn’t changed one bit. Everything looked the same to her as the memories flooded back to her. Madeline felt faint as the memories forced themselves to be re-lived. Madeline sat in the chair next to the window and tried to calm herself with deep breaths. Madeline was just eighteen and had graduated from high school when she and some friends wanted to know what the Silver City was all about. They had heard rumors about the wondrous place and wanted to see if everything they had heard was true, and it was.
Madeline loved everything the city had to offer her and so much more. While staying there with her friends, she met a man and fell for him quickly. Logan was completely different from her, which made him exciting and dangerous at the same time.
Madeline closed her eyes as she remembered the first time she saw Logan and how she felt when their eyes met. Her heart raced as she re-lived the moment in her head. It had been years since she had seen him, but his voice was all it took to remind her of the man she had fallen for all those years ago. The young girl in her wanted to pull the hood back from his face just to see those sparkling eyes look at her once again. At the same time, she was scared to see the love he once had for her now filled with hate since she left him there all those years ago.
