Chapter 75 Lingering Thoughts

This wasn’t supposed to happen.
I should have been relieved that the scandal had finally died down, that the media had lost interest in Daniel and me. That our plan—Nicholas’s plan—had worked flawlessly.
And yet…
I couldn’t stop thinking about the kiss.
It had been days, but the memory of it lingered like an annoying song stuck in my head. The way his lips had pressed against mine. The warmth. The way he had held me—firm but not forceful. The way, for just a fleeting moment, I had forgotten that it was all an act.
I groaned, pressing a pillow over my face.
“You okay over there, drama queen?” Cindy’s voice cut through my thoughts.
I peeked out from behind the pillow to glare at her. “No, I’m not okay.”
Cindy, sitting cross-legged on her couch, took a slow sip of her wine. “Is this about Nicholas?” she asked, raising a brow.
I sighed. “No.”
She snorted. “Liar.”
I sat up, hugging the pillow to my chest. “I hate that you know me so well.”
