Chapter 6
Ruby went to the kindergarten gate after getting off work and picked up her son from school. After saying goodbye to the teacher, her son ran towards her excitedly.
"Mom, why are you so late?” he asked playfully.
"Are you getting used to the class in kindergarten?" Ruby asked with a smile.
"Of course, I am the best in the class! Not only the teachers like me, but my friends too!” the little boy said proudly.
“This is so nice,” Ruby patted his head lovingly and asked, “What would you like to have for dinner?”
"What do I want to eat?” asked the little boy, scratching his head. He was a little surprised by the question.
Ruby realized how lucky she was to have a son. Her son had always been sensible and warm-hearted, which never let her worry about him since childhood. His kindness and wonderful personality always made Ruby proud.
The two of them walked to the supermarket hand in hand. After buying some ingredients, they returned home.
When they got home, her son was quietly stacking wood on the curb while Ruby was cooking in the kitchen. It was a small apartment, but it had a certain warmth.
"Mom, were you okay on your first day at work?” her son asked worriedly.
"What happened?" Ruby asked, smiling softly.
She never complained about life's hardships to her son and always kept a positive attitude. Whenever she saw her son's innocent face, she felt that facing the challenges outside was worth it.
"Aaron, I'll take you to visit Grandpa on the weekend, okay?” Ruby looked at her son expectantly.
"Okay!" Aaron said with a smile. "I want to see what Grandpa looks like too.”
But Ruby was worried. Leyla and her daughter would definitely not welcome them into their home. Then what would happen to her son? She would never tell the Smith family that her son was born by accident five years ago.
Ruby had decided she was going to tell her father that she had gotten married while she was overseas. At bedtime, she held her son in her arms and patted him lovingly on the back repeatedly. Soon, they both fell asleep from exhaustion, and the apartment was filled with peace.
Early the next morning..
Ruby started her day early, bathed her son and then sent him off to kindergarten. After that, she went to her company. After parking the car, she walked to the company with a steamed bun in her hand and ate it.
The brand, Elegant Creations Design, was a reputed name in the country. Now that it had been bought by the Carter Group, its market value had increased manifold. It was said that the company's upper management had decided to hold a jewelry show in the US to boost sales. Some of Ruby's creations were selected to be part of the competition.
This was the top show of her career. She could only succeed; failure was not an option for her! She had decided to finish her breakfast before entering the office so that it would not have any negative impact on her.
Finally, she stuffed a big piece of bread into her mouth. Just as she was chewing, the elevator door suddenly opened, and the charming figure of Michael Carter appeared in front of her.
Ruby was stunned, and she suddenly felt like she was chewing wax. She did her best to maintain her composure and walked into the elevator.
“Good morning,” Michael Carter greeted her casually.
Ruby finally swallowed the bread and smiled and said, “Good morning.”
The next moment, a loud burp made the atmosphere awkward.
Ruby just felt panic fill her stomach. She secretly regretted that she shouldn't have eaten so early.
All eyes in the elevator turned to her. She lowered her head in embarrassment, and heat rushed to her face. Her cheeks turned red, and she thought about how awkward this moment was for her.
Michael Carter stood there as if nothing had happened, but in fact, out of the corner of his eye, he caught Ruby's shy look in the elevator mirror. Getting into the elevator to reach the eighth floor was not easy, and the discomfort of that moment made her even more anxious.
As soon as the elevator door opened, Ruby ran out as if someone was after her to catch her. Early in the morning, she truly understood what social death was.
Michael Carter watched her pretend to be calm and a slight smile appeared on his face. This girl is quite interesting! He thought.
Ruby quickly picked up a cup and drank a few sips of water as she returned to her office to control her burps. Thinking of the embarrassing scene she had just witnessed, she was filled with regret. If it were someone else, she wouldn't feel so uncomfortable, but this person was Michael Carter... Yesterday, he even made up his mind to get married!
"It's over. This time, my goddess image is completely ruined," he thought to himself.
But then she turned on his computer and began working.
At 11 a.m., her assistant called her, "Sister Ruby, there's a meeting."
Ruby nodded and said, "I'll pack my things and go there.”
In the large conference room, Jasmine Parker, the chief designer, stood with a total of ten designers.
"President Michael Carter will be attending today's meeting," Victoria told everyone with no expression on her face.
This meeting could have been considered a meeting of the design department.
“Big Boss, why did Michael come to participate?” Thinking of this, Ruby suddenly felt very pressured as she stood aside.
Jasmine turned her head and asked, “Ruby, do you know Mr. Carter? He kept staring at you during the meeting yesterday!”
“No, I don't know,” Ruby denied without hesitation.
"It's better that you don't know each other. In the future, special care will be given to some people who have no background. The rest who have the ability will only play a supporting role." Jasmine said.
“Okay,” Before Ruby could say anything further, Jasmine interrupted her and said,“Be serious at work. The company is not a place for you to talk about love, let alone take shortcuts. If you have the ability, stay here, and if you don't, leave!" As she spoke, she looked coldly at the designers below her.
Jasmine looked at Ruby deliberately. She felt that Ruby was someone who liked to take shortcuts secretly because of her beauty.
Just then, the door of the conference room suddenly opened, and a tall and straight man walked in front of everyone. He was dressed in a black suit, his facial features were deep and there was a cold expression on his angular face. He walked straight to the head seat and sat down.
The interior designer immediately calmed down. Several female employees looked at Michael's face, with expressions of admiration in their eyes and eyebrows. Even Jasmine straightened her collar and smiled the softest smile to welcome Mr. Carter.
"That's enough. Let's get started," Michael said calmly.
