Chapter 5
Vice President Ella said with slight envy, “This Silverton Hills is a luxurious villa. It must be worth between 100 and 200 million Dollar. This wonderful property and its magnificent decorations are all yours. You are indeed very lucky." As she said this, he opened a wooden box containing five keys and an access card.
Ruby's face turned gloomy. She asked in surprise, "Is this all for me?"
"Yes, Mr. Carter personally told me to give this to you. You can pack up and move in today if you want," Ella explained.
Ruby took a deep breath and said nonchalantly, "Take it away. I don't need it.”
A wave of sadness ran through his heart. When his mother died, she had lived a painful life alone. Even though her mother was honored as a martyr, in her heart she could never make up for the loss of her biological mother. And now all this, which was like repaying his mother's favor, was meaningless to him.
"Miss Ruby, this is a special gift from Mr. Carter. He has transformed your ordinary apartment into a luxurious villa. How could you refuse such a precious thing?" Ella said in a surprised tone.
Ruby had inherited this magnificent mansion, and who could refuse a gift like that?
"Please tell Mr. Carter that I don't need this special treatment." Ruby passed the box back to Ella without hesitation.
Seeing Ella confused, she said again, "I can't accept such a big gift. Thank you.”
Seeing Ruby's persistence, Ella had to take the box back and in disappointment, she returned to give it to Michael Carter.
Ella came in and said, "Mr. Carter, I really don't know what to say. Who would have thought she would reject me so blatantly?”
Michael Carter replied in a calm voice, "It's okay, I expected her not to accept it."
He knew Ruby wanted to repay her mother's kindness in some way, but to Michael these monetary favors did not matter. He never intended to connect with Ruby in this form.
Smith House…
When James returned home in the evening, he had a light smile on his face. He excitedly told his wife Layla, “Dear, I got a call from Ruby today! It must have been difficult for her to live abroad for so many years. She is back and will be visiting us soon. As a father, I may have been overly strict. It is my fault."
"Ruby?" Layla's face hardened at the mention of the name. She wrinkled her nose in annoyance and said, "Why are you still mentioning her name? The same girl who ruined the honor of the whole family. How dare she call you back?”
James took a deep breath and said in a calm voice, "I've thought about all of this a lot. I don't think Ruby could be that careless. There must have been some misunderstanding. It is useless to talk about it now.”
Layla replied sharply, "Misunderstanding? This can't be a misunderstanding. You often go to bars and nightclubs yourself, and do misunderstandings ever occur in such places? Do you really think she will come back and fix everything?”
Layla had a deep bitterness towards Ruby. For her, Ruby's return was just an excuse to fight for property and inheritance. Layla was sure that Ruby had come back after seeing the progress of the Smith family. She had to be careful of Ruby at every step.
Seeing how unpleasant the subject was to his wife, James said nothing more. Quietly he went upstairs, where he could rest a little.
Layla stood there as James went upstairs, her mind in turmoil. Her heart was restless with the thought that Ruby's return was a sign of a great storm, and this time she would have to face this challenge alone. Anxiety and anger surged in her heart simultaneously.
Soon after James went into the room, Laylaquickly called her daughter Hazel.
“Hello, Mom, what happened?” Hazel’s voice echoed from the phone.
“Hazel, something really bad has happened,” Layla's voice was clear with tension and anger. “That little bitch Ruby has contacted your father. She said she's back from the US!”
Hazel was stunned for a moment. “What? She came back? How dare that evil girl?” Hazel muttered angrily.
"She wants the Smith Family's property, and she will do anything to get it. But I am not going to give her a penny! She thought that she will now make a place in this family again, but she is wrong." Layla's words reflected a strong intention. This time she was ready to fight Ruby till the last breath.
Hazel held back her anger and said, “Mom, five years ago I was the one who chased her away from this house. Now that I am here, she can’t come back and do anything against us. I will make him taste defeat again like every time."
The same old bitterness and hatred was clearly visible in the conversation between mother and daughter. The two discussed the issue for a while, made their plans, and then hung up the phone.
Hazel was confident that she would be able to defeat Ruby this time too, while Layla Had made up her mind that this time there would be no place left for Ruby.
Hazel was getting a massage at the time, but now her mood had soured. As soon as she sent the masseur out, she immediately dialed another number. This time she was calling her good friend, Nora.
Recently, Nora's behavior has become very strange. Not only has she closed her women's clothing shop, but she is also not meeting anyone. Hazel couldn't understand what Nora was doing.
As soon as the phone was connected, Nora asked in surprise, "Hazel, why did you call me so suddenly?”
"Nora, what are you doing? You have even closed your shop.” Hazel asked directly without any preamble.
Nora replied casually, "I went on a trip recently. But tell me, how can I help you?"
Hazel's voice was clearly filled with anger, "I have bad news to tell you—Ruby, that little bitch, is back!”
This news shocked Nora so much that she got up from the bed in panic. In her hurry, her phone fell down, but she quickly picked it up and cleared her throat and said, "When did she come back? And why so suddenly?”
Hazel sensed her nervousness and said sarcastically, "Why are you so scared? Will she come and eat you?”
""No, no, I was just asking. I'm not scared," Nora stuttered, but her voice clearly showed that she was actually scared.
"Father said she's back, and I think she's just come to get her property. You are also her enemy, so she might cause trouble for you too,” Hazel warned him.
The lines of worry on Nora's face deepened. She not only hated Ruby, but also wished she would die abroad. She was afraid that if Ruby came back and met Michael Carter, she would find out about what happened at Hotel No. 520 five years ago. It happened with Ruby and not with her, otherwise her secret will be revealed.
The luxuries and wealth she was enjoying were all in Ruby's name. If Michael finds out the truth, he will lose everything.
"Hazel, we are both in the same boat. If there are any developments in the future, let me know right away so I can prepare," Nora said nervously.
"Okay, we will teach him a lesson together,” Hazel replied and hung up the phone.
But Nora's anxiety had increased even more. She had to get rid of Ruby at any cost. She was enjoying the luxurious life given to her by Michael Carter. But she still felt it wasn't enough. She wanted to marry Michael, and Ruby's return could ruin all her plans.
A plan began to form in his mind—at any cost, he must make Ruby disappear from this world forever. And Hazel shouldn't even know about this, because if Hazel comes to know that she has followed Michael Carter, she will also be jealous. It was now extremely important for Nora to keep her plans secret.
Nora made a vow to herself-she must get Ruby out of the way at any cost, no matter what she had to do…
