CHAPTER EIGHT - A WOUND THAT NEVER HEALS
Aria's mind raced as she entered the cafeteria. The message on her bike haunted her, but she found herself drawn to Lucas and his friends.
"Hey," Lucas said softly as she approached. "Are you okay? You left so suddenly last night."
Aria forced a smile. "I'm fine. Just needed some air."
Vulcan grinned. "Well, you missed my killer dance moves. I was breaking it down like a pro."
Lilaya rolled her eyes. "If by 'pro' you mean 'dying fish', then sure."
"Hey!" Vulcan protested. "I'll have you know I've been practicing. Watch this."
He stood up and attempted a complex series of moves, nearly knocking over his lunch tray in the process. Aria couldn't help it - she burst out laughing.
The table fell silent, staring at her in shock. Aria's laughter trailed off, and she looked around uncertainly.
"What?" she asked, suddenly self-conscious.
Lucas smiled warmly. "Nothing. It's just... that's the first time we've heard you really laugh."
Aria felt her cheeks heat up. "Oh. I guess it is."
