CHAPTER 17

Emily sighed out as she stared at her feet soaking in the small crystal pond just behind their mansion. The waters were so clear and blue, without a trace of dirt in them due to their natural filters, the bright pearls and smooth rocks separating them from the dirt. They acted as edges and floors to the pond. The pearls were merely decorations to make it look more beautiful and appealing. There weren't any fish in the water either, mostly because they simply needed it just for the clear water and nothing else. Of course there was a pond of countless exotic fish just a few feet from where she was sitting. The fish were always made sure not exceed a certain number, so you know where the extra fish go to. Yap, in the winter fish stew, makes great stew at that with some salty meat and veggie goodness running down the back of your throats and just warming up your insides with a gentle pat. The thought of it could only make you want to try some and it always made Emily crave for it, especially with just a bit of garlic just for a mild taste, not too much and not too little with some onion seasoning. Now that was a meal to enjoy when you're shaking in your bones. Jason, meanwhile, was nowhere to be seen, even after an intense look for him around the castle and at his house as well. There was only Melanie there, hardly seeming annoyed after Emily had run away from Kelvin. Nor did she seem to have been told that she was bound to get divorced soon. Emily could only assume He was just lying to her that night that they just had a fight and he just said the words out of mere anger. What else could that mean? "Emily." A voice called from behind her and she instantly gasped internally before whipping her head towards the one behind her. Kelvin stood, staring down at her with a slight frown on his lips as she stared back at him with widened eyes. He licked his lips as he looked around, feeling the annoyance of yesterday remind him of his anger. The anger he felt as he was bring rejected by a woman who clearly didn't have a choice but to accept him, and yet the same woman decided to take on with a married man much older than he was, when he was clearly her age and the right man for her. "Why are you here?" Emily asked as she shot him a glare while he took off his leather boots, untangling the laces first before struggling to pull them off.  She watched as he padded across the stone path and into the water before sitting down beside her. A groan escaped his lips as the heat he was harboring in his boots finally left his feet the moment they eased out in the water. "Gosh this is so good." He groaned out as he threw his head back with a small smile tagging his lips. "No wonder you're here. It's really hot out." "Why are you here?" She asked again, staring straight at him as he stared back at her. "Why did it have to be him?" He asked as he stared at her with a frown. "I don't know you." Emily deadpanned before glancing away from him and at her feet in the water, struggling not to roll her eyes. "You just came out of nowhere. Don't expect me to just get comfortable-" "The whole reason of the ceremony isn't to be with someone you know." Kelvin rolled his eyes and clenched his jaw. "Not everyone gets the man or woman they know. It's mostly someone they hardly even know. Some get mated with people from different packs and that's way scarier than a guy from your pack because you have no idea how they live there." He explained and she remained quiet as she laced her fingers. "The man you decided to have, or you claim you 'know' is many years older than you are. On top of that, he's married to a woman and they've been married for maybe seven years or more. Not to mention, you even asked her to help you look for a man and you decided to sleep with hers instead. Aren't you a bit ashamed about that?" "I didn't ask for your opinion." Emily growled under her voice as irritation got the best of her. "If you came here just to attack me then you better leave." "I didn't want come here to attack you or anything." Kelvin sighed out as he ran a hand through his hair. "I came here because your father is worried about you being in love with a married man. A beta. The entire pack will be talking about it." "So what does it have to do with you?" Emily asked sharply and he frowned deeply, knowing she was the least interested in him. "Since both don't have mates at the current moment. Your father decided it would be best if we talked more often." He explained as calmly as possible. "I'm not marrying you." Emily emphasized, locking eyes with him to express her point as she furrowed her brows. "Just to make it clear." "Did I say anything about marrying you?" He asked through gritted teeth, getting her to look away. "I said he needed us to get along and get closer. If we still can't get alone then we can't get married. Otherwise your dream with that man of yours is impossible when he's still married. He's a beta, he can't marry two wives, we don't allow that here remember?" "I know. But he said he would divorce his wife-" she stopped when she noticed she had just told the wrong person Jason's secret. She was bound to get him in trouble. "I mean..." "I won't tell anyone." Kelvin smiled slightly as he noticed her discomfort. "I'm not going to tell if you don't want me to. I'm not the kind to go around breaking people." He said as he glanced from her and towards the different flower bushes in front of them. "Thanks." Emily said in a mummer as she glanced down to her laps. Knowing he probably wasn't such a bad guy.
