“Are you sure you aren't drunk?” Anna questioned before pushing her cup of coffee to her. “You can have my coffee if you're finding it difficult to say sane.”
“I'm being serious, Anna,” Mary said, her voice breaking. “Before we continue, can I ask that we take this somewhere else? I'm not comfortable with the idea of talking about this with all of these people around.”
“And this is not some trap you're trying to lure me into?” Anna asked, her lips pressed into a thin line.
“No, it's not. Just trust me,” Mary pleaded as she got up from her seat. “We can talk in your car if that will make you feel safer.”
“I'd prefer we talk here but sure, we'll talk in my car,” Anna said with an annoyed sigh, as she brought out the money for the meal and placed it on the table with tips for the waitress. That's for the opportunity you presented me.
