Juliet turned, her eyes glistening with unshed tears. "I'm not running away," she whispered, her voice cracking.
Juliet shook her head, her resolve hardening. "Just leave me alone, Sam," she repeated, her voice filled with exhaustion then she turned her face away.
But Sam couldn't let it go. "What are you going to tell your mother, Juliet?" she asked, her voice full of concern. "How are you going to explain why you’re leaving?"
Juliet turned, her face pale and drawn. "I'll tell her the truth," she said, her voice firm.
As Juliet turned her back on Sam and continued her walk towards the unknown, the full weight of her decision crashed down on her like an avalanche. She was terrified of what her mother's reaction would be, terrified of the disappointment she knew would be etched on Viola’s face.
She knew her mother had pinned all her hopes on this marriage, that she saw it as the only way to save their family's legacy. And now, Juliet was about to shatter that dream.
