Chapter 6

THE COMEBACK OF THE REJECTED HEIR CHAPTER SIX "How? where did you get that from?" Sawyer stammered in shock. He was lost for words as he stared at Josh in surprise, he wondered how the information had gotten to him when he had done so well for the past days to conceal his identity and anything relating to him being a Johnson. "Is that supposed to be a question?" Josh asked sarcastically. "Well, not only do I not know your identity, I know a lot about you and I know your reasons from moving away and If I were you, that would be the last thing I would worry about now" Josh gritted his teeth and clenched his fists in anger as the thoughts of his father praising Sawyer. "If for once you think you can come into my father's restaurant then you must be mistaken, you better leave now or I will try everything possible to make sure you leave! Trust me I will! With a snap of my fingers the information I have gotten won't take seconds to be revealed and you know what that means" "So, don't return tomorrow, else…" he said and walked away from a dumbfounded Sawyer, leaving unspoken words behind. Sawyer was too shocked to move. He just stood there and watched as Josh walked away from him, fading into the darkness. He thought he had kept his tracks clean but he didn't and that was a mid on his part, he would have to be careful from now on to keep his secrets with him. Sawyer managed to drag himself to his apartment, and spent the night on his bed rolling as he kept on thinking about what happened to him on his way back. He didn't plan on pissing Josh off, his only intention was to get a job that could at least provide him a roof on his head and some food in his stomach. But now, his secrets were out and he only needed to do one thing in order not to jeopardize his stay here. "I guess I have to quit tomorrow" Sawyer muttered to himself silently as he stared at the wall. Sawyer decided to call it quits with his job and go on to find other jobs. He knew it would be difficult for him to get another one most especially when he knew how hard it was for him until he landed this one but he felt it was the best decision, as he didn't know what Josh was capable of. "I will speak to Josh on the morrow and I will inform him about my resignation that he doesn't need to bother about me anymore" Sawyer muttered with a yawn and rolled over to take a night rest. *** The rays of sunlight that crept into the room cause made Sawyer know it was morning already. He yawned and took rounds of big stretches on the bed and lazily turned to the other side, away from the sun, to get some more sleep. He was about to shut his eyes, when he caught sight of the time on the digital clock on the drawer beside the bed he bought earlier this week. "Shoot! It's almost 9am! I will be late for work!!" he said and got out of bed immediately. He dashed into the bathroom immediately and took a quick shower. Even if he had the intention to resign, he still needed to be punctual. From what happened yesterday, he knew better than to wear something that wasn't casual as he thought it could help hide his identity from others since he believe that if Josh was able to easily identify him then anyone else could, well, anyone who was looking closely. He got a light t-shirt and pair of jeans and some casual pairs of shoes l and wore it on immediately. He was about to exit his room when he remembered his plan to quit this job, getting another one would be difficult but he have to. He sighed at the door. "It is this or nothing" he whispered. He couldn't imagine how he would face his boss but he just know he would do it. Honestly, he didn't know whether to be flattered to know that he was pretty good at making burgers; good enough to keep the manager's son on his toes, or to be sad that he was minutes away from quitting his job; one he found after so much stress from endless job-hunting. He knew it was going to be hard to get another one, but he'd made his decision and accepted his fate. With that, he left his house and locked the door behind him. ________________ From a distance, the restaurant looked very busy and full of bustles. It didn't seem like t was a busy restaurant from the first time he got there yesterday but now, It seemed like there were many customers, more than he had imagined in the restaurant. He opened the doors and walked in to see more customers which then confirmed his arithmetic. He was shocked at the amount of customers present in the restaurant. They were getting restless as they hadn't been served their meal. It was like they had all been waiting for quite a long time. They were complaining at the counters and on their seats. Just then, he sighted Jerry walking to him with a stern glare, an apron in his hand. "I guess I have to do this now" Sawyer said to himself as he walked towards Jerry. "Good morning, Mr. Jerry" he greeted politely. "You're late, Sawyer. Where have you been? Don't you know that we open by seven in the morning? Why are you just coming?" Jerry fired questions at Sawyer before he could come up with an answer. "Ermmm... Mr. Jerry, we have to talk about something. I don't think I want this-" "Here!" Jerry threw the apron at Sawyer and turned away from him. "Whatever it is can wait at the end of the day, now focus on attending to the customers" Jerry said. "But, sir…" "Look at that, we have lot's of people waiting to be attended to, now, chop chop go attend to them" Jerry added as he paused in his tracks. "But, it's really…" "…Not only are they hungry, they are here because they loved the burgers that were served to them yesterday. They are all requesting for some burger. The burgers that you made. We've never had this many people in one day, Sawyer. They want more. They want your burgers. Go save the day like you did yesterday!" Jerry beamed proudly. Sawyer hesitated for some seconds but he didn't want to disappoint Jerry who had an expectant look on his eyes. He didn't know what to expect when he entered the kitchen and met Josh. He didn't know what he'd do if the other workers start laughing at him again, but at the same time, he didn't want to leave the customers hanging especially Jerry and he not only love the money but also the job. Josh was drenched in sweat, from his head, all the way to his back. The kitchen was very hot and it looked crazy. Josh just kept murmuring and cursing as he made the burgers. "Good morning, Josh" Sawyer said to Josh. Josh turned to him, only noticing him for this first time since he came into the kitchen. "Well, what are you gawking at me for? What's good about the morning? And what are you doing here? Didn't I warn you to not step a foot here?" Josh fired angrily at Sawyer. "This… this is just my last day here and I promise I would be gone before you know it, you won't see me here after today" Sawyer pleaded. "I see you only have ears but you don't listen" Josh said angrily and focused on the food he was stirring, he was going to teach Sawyer a lesson he vowed under his breath. "I will just leave now" Sawyer said and Josh scoffed. **** It was hours into the day, and the orders had subsided a little. For the first time in a long time since the day began, Sawyer and Josh had some time to breathe same with the other workers. For the time, one was grateful that there were less customers. They were still taking some breather when Jerry walked in with a young lady from the way she walked and carried herself, Sawyer knew she was a confident type and he didn't have a doubt about it, he has seen type like that. "So!" Jerry clapped his palms together to get the attention of the employees who didn't notice him come in. "Who is she dad?" Josh asked. "This is Sofia. Sofia Dalton. She will be working in the kitchen from now on, we are short of staff, especially in the kitchen I had to hire more hands" he said then pointed at Sofia. "Finally, you listened to me", Josh said with a smile, his plans to get rid of Sawyer began to play out in his head, it wouldn't be difficult getting rid of Sawyer any more. "Well, I did and I want y'all to work together" Jerry said and threw a stern look towards Josh since he knew Josh could be the hard one to get through.
