Chapter 12
THE COMEBACK OF THE REJECTED HEIR
Chapter 12
Sawyer was given some water when he was taken into the car, with water in his system, he wasn't as drunk as he was when he was in the bar.
"Where are you taking me?" He asked, breaking the silence in the car.
"I can see you are finally back to yourself, well to answer your question, you are coming home with me" the don answered.
"Why?" He asked confused, why was the Don taking him to his house? He couldn't remember his last conversation in the bar with the don hence, he didn't understand why he was leaving with the Don and to his house.
"You can't return home in this state" the Don simply stated.
"Why are you helping me?" Sawyer suddenly blurted.
"I see my younger self in you and I don't want you to live in sorrow and anguish that I have lived for years" the Don responded.
"Then what's your story?" He asked.
"I was married some years back and tragedy happened" he explained.
"So she left you" Sawyer concluded and stared outside through the window, he couldn't believe how one could hurt someone in such a way, making them love and trust them then break them to pieces that they wouldn't be able to pick themselves up.
"Yes, she left me but not in the way you are thinking" his statement brought Sawyer's attention back to him.
"She died. She died along with my son in a car accident, I still can't heal from it, I still can't heal from the lost and the pain and…" the Don trailed off not wanting to bore him with his sob story.
"My son should have been your age if he was alive, I guess you reminded me a lot of things and that is why I want to help you" he said and Sawyer nodded.
"Thank you" he wasn't aware when the Don had said help, he meant help in another form.
"Now, I understand why you have spoken to me in such tone and manner" Sawyer muttered but the Don had heard him.
"In what tone?" The Don asked. He wasn't sure if the young man and him were on the same page.
"In a fatherly tone, I wish I could say I recognize that tone but I don't. It's soothing, voicing out my problems while you listen" he said to the Don. He wished he had grown up in a different home where the parents not only love themselves but also their children, he had only seen concern on his father's face for Alex but not for him.
"Oh that" the Don said and watched him intently, he wondered how someone like him could not be shown love a lot, how someone like him could not be loved when it was very easy to.
"Boss, we are here" the driver interrupted any further discussion that would have continued between the two as the door was opened.
Don Maximus stepped out of the car first then Sawyer followed suit.
"Shall we?" The Don smiled towards Sawyer, pointing towards the entrance of the house.
"Urhm, I don't mean to be rude or anything but I think I'm imposing…"
"Nonsense! Come on In" the Don said patting his shoulder. Sawyer shuts his eyes before walking with the Don, he felt like he was breaking his time with his family.
"I'm really sorry for breaking a tradition here, I mean this night is special to you and I just…" he trailed off when he caught the sad look in the Don's eyes.
"You don't have to be sorry about anything Sawyer, you did no wrong to me, besides I was the one who walked up to you. I guess as time grew, I have began to accept that they are gone forever and I can still love them deep inside of me" the Don replied.
"We shall" he finally replied the Don. The Don smiled, he had received the answer he was waiting to here from him, he doesn't know why but he felt this pull towards Sawyer, Sawyer was like the don he never had the chance to have.
Sawyer walked with the Don inside the mansion, he knew he should be skeptical about the Don sudden likeness to him yet he was not bothered and there was something inside him that made him feel calm about the Don.
The house was magnificent, yes, his family were rich but this man, the house he had just stepped into was nothing compared to theirs and he began to see the Don in a different light.
"And here would be your room" The Don pointed to a room they were standing in front of. Sawyer was about to speak about it when he remembered the look on the Don's face when he had rejected his offer.
"Thank you so much sir" he said and the Don smiled.
"Get a goodnight sleep, you and I need to have a discussion tomorrow" the Don said.
They exchanged goodnight and the don walked towards the direction of his room while Sawyer went into the room.
The moment he got into the room, he began to reflect back on how the Don and him had met, he wished the Don was his father. Just the little amount of time he had spent with him, he had began to see him like his father.
He wondered what would have caused the accident that had led to the death of the Don son and his wife. He couldn't tell what the love of one's family was but he could tell the pain he saw in the Don eyes, he wished the old man would be able to find happiness soon.
"I started the evening sad but I'm ending it being confused" he muttered under his breath.
He still couldn't understand how or why the Don had taken interest in him even if the Don had told him that he looked like his dead son.
If staying in the mansion for the night would make the Don happy then he would gladly do that but he has to return back to where he belongs tomorrow.
