Chapter 8: The Entrance Exam
After reading everything, Wendy returned to her room and went to sleep, preparing for the exam the next day.
The next morning, Claire was already downstairs, waiting early with a tablet in hand, reviewing documents.
Meanwhile, Caro had already changed into her school uniform. When the two met, she gave Wendy a fierce glare before heading downstairs.
In the living room, she greeted Claire, "Brother, you're up so early today?"
Claire briefly looked up and responded with a simple "Hmm," then continued reading his newspaper.
Feeling awkward at Claire's indifferent response, Caro sat down in the living room. Wendy soon followed, ready with her things, and greeted Claire as well.
Claire saw Wendy, put his things aside, smiled at her, and said, "Wendy, after breakfast, we'll head to the school."
Wendy nodded and joined them at the dining table. She picked up a slice of bread and started eating. Caro watched Wendy eat with elegance, as if she had done it hundreds of times, despite being a country bumpkin not too long ago.
The more Caro thought about it, the angrier she became, angrily biting into her bread while glaring at Wendy.
Noticing Caro's stare, Wendy looked up, raised an eyebrow, and said, "Don't forget our agreement from yesterday."
Caro smiled sarcastically, "I don't know why you're so pleased with yourself. With your grades, there's no way you'll get in!"
She rested her chin on her hand, watching Wendy with a smug expression, "I can't wait to see you fail!"
Wendy simply smiled and continued her breakfast, which infuriated Caro further. She angrily slammed her food down and wiped her mouth before heading to the door. "I'm done. I'm heading to school now."
At this moment, Winnesa stepped out, "Why not go with Wendy? You're both going to the same school."
Caro's face turned sour as she mumbled, "I don't want to. I'm almost late."
Claire put down his newspaper and said, "It's okay, Mom. I'll take Wendy to school and handle her paperwork."
Winnesa nodded, "Alright, Caro, be careful on your way."
Caro's eyes stayed glued to Claire, who used to drive her to school whenever he had time. But now, all his attention was on Wendy.
"Miss, it's time to go," the driver urged. With no choice, Caro followed the driver out, still fuming.
"Why are you driving so slowly? I'm going to be late!" she snapped at the driver, who had no choice but to speed up.
Wendy finished her breakfast and joined Claire. "Ready to go?" she asked.
Claire smiled warmly, "Yes, let's go. Make sure you have everything you need."
Wendy checked her bag and nodded, "I have everything."
Claire took her bag, and as they reached the door, he told Winnesa, "We'll be off to school now. Prepare something delicious for us in the afternoon!"
Winnesa walked over, tidying Wendy's hair and giving her a gentle kiss on the forehead. "Be safe, Wendy."
Wendy smiled and returned the kiss, "I will, Mom."
With that, they left for the car. During the ride, Claire handed Wendy some practice tests. "These are sample questions from the school. Review them and ask if you have any questions."
Wendy glanced at the papers and quickly solved them in her mind. "I know how to do all these," she said confidently, handing them back to Claire.
Claire was surprised, knowing her previous grades were poor. "Really? You know all of them?"
Wendy smiled, reassuring him, "Trust me. I can handle this. I'll pass the entrance exam."
Claire nodded, still a bit skeptical.
Upon arriving at the school, they found the principal and some teachers already waiting.
"We've been expecting you," the principal greeted.
Claire introduced Wendy, "This is my sister. She's here for the entrance exam."
The staff greeted Wendy and then led her inside. "Let's begin the test, Miss Wendy."
