Melanie glanced at Janet and Cody, feeling utterly bewildered.
They had ignored Christine's letters in the past, and now they were throwing around these phony platitudes. Who were they trying to impress?
Melanie brushed it off. She had no illusions about these relatives being able to help her.
As for her poor mother back in the Smith Village, once she got on her feet, she would definitely bring Christine to live with her and enjoy a better life.
"That's pretty funny, considering we're not that close anyway. How can there be talk of losing touch? By the way, did you even receive the letter my mom sent to your family?"
Janet's and Cody's smiles froze. No one had expected Melanie to call them out like that. Most people would at least put on a facade of politeness in such situations, even if they felt annoyed.
