Chapter 7

The dance troupe had gradually split into two factions since Jocelyn had joined on Cameron's recommendation. One faction had Evelyn as their leader, and its members strived to be like her. The other had Jocelyn as their leader. This group barely practiced and only thought about how to suck up to her. They hoped she would put in a good word for them with Cameron so they could benefit from it. The two factions didn't come into direct conflict until one day after practice. Jocelyn stopped Evelyn with a smile. "There's a part of the choreography that I don't really get, Evelyn. Could you help me with it?" Evelyn frowned at Jocelyn's uncharacteristic behavior. She was about to speak when Jocelyn's lackey pushed her from behind. "What's that supposed to mean? Jocelyn's being humble enough to ask you for help. What's with your attitude?" Someone who was on Evelyn's side couldn't stand for that. Standing before Evelyn, she asked, "What do we mean by this? I could ask Jocelyn the same thing! She had plenty of time to ask Evelyn for help during practice. Why is she only asking now that everyone's done for the day? Is she doing this on purpose?" Evelyn didn't want to get into a fight with them and tugged on her friend. However, Jocelyn's lackeys thought she was scared and became nastier. "You're scared now, aren't you? Listen up! Jocelyn is the future Mrs. Ford. Evelyn should be honored that she can teach her!" "Exactly! She's just an orphan. Does she think she's a big deal? Mr. Ford might just kick you out of here if you upset Mrs. Ford!" Someone started getting physical as they spoke. The two factions started fighting. Amidst the chaos, Jocelyn suddenly came to Evelyn's side and shoved her hard. Evelyn was standing by the edge of the stage. As she lost her balance and toppled over, she grabbed Jocelyn and pulled her down. As they fell together, everyone screamed. The whole situation was chaotic. When Cameron hurriedly arrived, Jocelyn and Evelyn were about to be wheeled away for surgery. He paled when he saw them covered in blood. There was a hint of panic in his usually calm voice. "What's the situation?" A doctor hastily approached him. "Ms. Ford and Ms. Irwin fell from the stage, Mr. Ford. They both broke their legs, but Ms. Ford is in worse condition because she was pinned beneath Ms. Irwin. We only have one dose of the targeted medication for this; Ms. Irwin will be fine without it. What do you—" Cameron cut him off. "Give it to Jocelyn!" "But…" "Cut the crap and start the surgery!" Evelyn had just woken up from the pain and happened to hear his words. She felt like she'd been struck by lightning. He knew how important a dancer's legs were, and the doctor had made it clear Jocelyn would be fine without the medication. She endured the pain and mustered her strength to cry out to him. She'd always been proud but was in tears as she begged, "Don't do this, Cameron. Please, give me the medication! It's okay if you don't like me, and I can forget that you left me to die in the mountains. "You know how much my legs mean to me. I can't lose them! I need to continue dancing! It's my dream! Please don't do this to me!" She broke down and allowed her tears to flow down her face. Cameron watched her and clenched his fists as he thought about how Evelyn had never cried despite the injuries she'd had in the past. He trembled slightly and was about to speak when Jocelyn also woke up from the pain. She recalled the pain she'd felt when falling off the stage and also burst into tears. "It hurts, Cameron… My leg… Save me…" Cameron immediately forgot about Evelyn and ran to hold Jocelyn's hand. "Be good, okay? I'll have the doctor administer the targeted medication right now!" After that, he stopped hesitating and turned to the doctor. He urged him to tend to Jocelyn. When Evelyn saw this, she tried to take the targeted medication from the doctor. She reached out, but her broken legs held her back. She couldn't move. She could only watch as the medication was administered to Jocelyn. The liquid disappeared before her very eyes!
