Chapter 4
Eleanor's face combined the best features of Amelia and Theodore with her almond-shaped cheeks and bright eyes. Unfortunately, her clothes were ragged and dirty, making her look like a beggar.
"You must be Eleanor. We are your... parents."
Theodore said awkwardly, trying to break the uncomfortable silence. Eleanor responded with a dull...
"hmm"
She said nothing more, while Theodore continued to explain nervously. Eleanor's indifferent attitude infuriated Amelia who rolled her eyes and sat down silently. This rude country girl didn't resemble her daughter at all.
Eleanor looked at Theodore, who seemed genuinely enthusiastic despite his obvious discomfort. In fact, Theodore wasn't a bad person, just spineless. However, his feelings for Eleanor deteriorated after listening to Amelia's harsh words.
As they drove through the city, the car eventually stopped in front of a grand villa in a wealthy district. Eleanor followed the Hamptons into the villa moving at a leisurely pace.
"Nice to meet you, Miss ...!"
The servants greeted her at the door with exaggerated politeness. Eleanor found it amusing. Soon, they would know who the real Heiress was.
Inside, the people in the room turned to look at her. Eleanor immediately noticed a young girl in a white dress and a young man radiating energy, sitting next to her. This was Theodore's youngest child, Charles, and their daughter, Catherina.
In her previous life, although Charles did not like her at all, he was the first to warn her to run when danger loomed. Eleanor on the other hand had mixed feelings about her younger brother.
"Sister..."
Catherina's voice brought Eleanor back to reality.
"Welcome home!"
She smiled brightly, looking pure and kind - a perfect little white flower. Catherina, acting like a hostess, made Eleanor, the real Heiress, look like an outsider.
Eleanor knew that Catherina was doted on by the Hampton family. Raised by them for so many years, Catherina had become a cherished member of the household. Now that her mother had passed away, it was only natural for her to remain with the Hamptons.
