Chapter 6

Women often had keen instincts. In my previous life, though I was blind, I realized that Yvette behaved differently toward a special person after I interacted with her a few times. She couldn't be with the person she loved either. That person was Samuel's uncle, Gideon Jackman. Yet even until the day I passed away, Samuel didn't learn of that secret. The nurses and doctors rushed into the hospital ward, trying to calm Samuel down. Meanwhile, I sat on my hospital bed and looked ahead soullessly, pretending to be blind. Yet I smirked faintly to myself. Samuel paused briefly before flying into a rage. Just when he was about to lose control of his emotions, his phone rang. Since he was extremely mad, he didn't care about it. In the end, the doctor reminded him nervously, "Mr. Jackman, Mr. Jackman Senior is calling you." Controlling his temper, Samuel answered the phone. "Hello, Dad." "Come back to the Jackman residence now! Gideon found out about what you did. Have you considered the consequences of your actions?" Eric roared angrily. Since I became blind some time ago, my hearing had become very sensitive. So, I recognized Eric's furious voice. He probably heard about what had happened at the ski resort. Glaring at me darkly, Samuel hurriedly approached me, and no one stopped him. I forced myself to remain still as he grabbed the collar of my hospital robe, pulling me up from the bed. Samuel leaned in and whispered, "There'll be no one in this ward at night. Wait for me later. It'll be more exciting to do it in a hospital ward." Though he flirted with me in my previous life, he was never this blatant. Samuel never told me to get ready to sleep with him back then. It seemed that he had gone mad because I reminded him that Yvette loved another. Even so, I didn't want to know what he thought. My expression turned cold, and I bit down on his hand hard. Samuel let go of me in pain and raised his hand as if to slap me. However, the blow didn't land on my face. Instead, he stared at me for a few seconds before leaving gloomily. The moment he left, I hurriedly grabbed my cane and prepared to be discharged from the hospital. I needed to pay 400 dollars for my medical fees. Clutching my phone tightly, I realized that I only had 1,000 dollars left in my bank account. The card that contained all of my savings had been taken away by Margaret Bennett, Benjamin's wife. Since I was unwilling to tell her my bank password, she withheld my debit card from me. I didn't have the time to report it to the bank. After paying the bills, I was left with 600 dollars. Then, I held my cane and boarded the subway. After two transfers and traveling for one and a half hours, I arrived at Harborton University, where I studied. Unlocking the dorm door with my key, I felt for my bed and sat down. Smelling the scent of instant macaroni in my dormitory, it finally hit me that I had been reborn. Six people shared one dorm each. All of us had a bed at the top bunk and a table at the bottom. I was supposed to be in the first semester of my second year of university this year. I only had one and a half months left before this semester ended. A while later, I heard the sound of laughter outside. The dorm door was opened, and a few women were shocked to see me inside. "Why did you come back? Have your eyes recovered, Juliet? " I shook my head. "No, I haven't recovered." "What about your therapy? Will it be delayed?" Previously, I dropped out of university because I had to treat my eyes. I replied calmly, "I won't be treating them at the moment. Since I have nowhere else to live, I'll stay in the dorm for a while." When I started university this semester, my parents paid for my tuition and boarding fees. Later on, my family went bankrupt, so my parents killed themselves. Then, I ended up becoming Samuel's plaything. When I dropped out of university, I didn't even get a refund. As I had already paid the tuition fees, it was normal for me to return. Besides, I couldn't go back to Benjamin's house; he would definitely send me back to Samuel. Once my roommates heard that I had nowhere to live, they had complicated expressions on their faces. One of them, who looked rather young, approached me. She held my hand. "Don't worry, you can stay in this dorm. If you need help to get water or food, tell me. I'll help you!" She gave me a friendly smile. Evidently, the kindness she displayed was different from Yvette's. "Thank you, but I can do it myself." After that, the other women pulled her back and whispered to her, "Ignore her, Amelia. With a pretty face like hers, other men will offer to take care of her, so she doesn't need our help. Didn't she drop out of university previously because she had a sugar daddy?" Frowning, Amelia Xavier chided them softly, "Don't say that. Her family went bankrupt, and she became blind. It's not a big deal for me to take care of her." "I didn't say anything. I just think that she's pretty lucky. Many people who have gone bankrupt lead terrible lives. But she's very pretty, so she won't suffer much." I looked down and clenched my fists. Many people often told me that I was lucky in my previous life. They said things like, "Your family has gone bankrupt and your parents are dead. But you're so lucky to have a wealthy man to pay for your needs." "You're so lucky to be Samuel's woman. Take care of Mr. Jackman or you'll be abandoned by him." "Not every pretty lady would become Samuel's lover. Besides, you're blind. You should treasure this opportunity, Juliet." I had heard those words too many times. Yet Samuel was the one who made my family go bankrupt. As I stayed in the dorm, I slowly calmed down. Holding my cane, I headed downstairs to take a shower. Then, I went back and slowly climbed the ladder to my bed while feeling for the rungs. As I had recovered my eyesight, I could see Amelia following me. She silently spread her arms, as if she was afraid that I would fall. After a brief pause, I continued climbing up my bed slowly. In my previous life, Amelia also showed care toward me. Alas, she was implicated, and Samuel forcefully acquired her family's supermarket. Samuel could easily ruin someone's family like that. So, before I defeated him, I decided not to make any friends. Lying on my bed, I charged my phone and discovered 20 missed calls on it. Half of them were from Samuel, while the rest were from Margaret and Benjamin. When I left the hospital, I muted my phone as I knew Samuel would try to look for me. After shoving the phone under my pillow, I closed my eyes. My dorm was the safest place at the moment. I was at Harborton University. Their notable alumni included Samuel's uncle, Gideon. As such, though Samuel would kick up a fuss, he wouldn't dare to do so in Gideon's old university. That night, I had the best sleep in two lifetimes. When I opened my eyes the next morning, I saw Amelia, who had climbed up my ladder and was preparing to wake me up. Amelia blushed when she saw me open my eyes and gently patted me. "It's Amelia, Juliet.' She knew that I couldn't see, so she told me her name. "I know." I nodded. Pointing outside, Amelia replied, "Your relative is quarreling with the dorm supervisor downstairs. She's also crying on the floor and scolding you for being heartless. There are a lot of people outside. Do you want to check it out?"
