Chapter 10
Samuel leaned in, his lips closing in on mine. "Will you really do whatever I ask of you?"
I frowned in confusion.
His fingers brushed against my lips, then he touched his exquisite leather belt. What he wanted to do was obvious.
I broke out into goosebumps when I saw the mockery in his eyes. Samuel appeared to be thinking about how to torture me in the future.
Actually, I was a little confused. He seemed a little different in this life after I was reborn. Though he loved to tease me in my previous life, he never touched me like this before.
Suppressing my disgust, I nodded. "I'll do whatever you tell me. But I have to return to university now."
Suddenly, Samuel's expression turned serious. "What makes you think that you can discuss things with me? Did you meet another man at university? For the sake of his safety, you should leave him. I'll kill anyone who dares to touch you. Without my protection, you'll be in grave danger because you're blind!"
He gazed at me maliciously. Just then, his phone rang, and I saw that Eric was calling him.
"Dad?"
"You bastard! I heard that you're not in the office. Where did you go?"
"I went to meet a friend."
"A friend? Did you meet that blind woman again? Didn't I tell you not to take things too far yesterday? If your uncle hears of this, he'll kick you out of the company!"
As I stared at Samuel, I realized that he looked scared whenever Eric mentioned Gideon's name.
In my previous life, though I realized that something was wrong, I couldn't see the expressions on Samuel's face because I was blind. Hence, I was never able to confirm my suspicions.
I was now certain that Samuel feared Gideon more than I thought.
"She's just a plaything. I won't let things go out of control."
"It'd better be true. Know your boundaries."
After that, Eric hung up.
Though I was sitting right beside him, Samuel still told other people that I was his obedient plaything. He thought that I would be under his control.
The next moment, Samuel's phone rang again. His features softened, and he hurriedly answered the call.
"Hello, Yvie."
"I want to leave the hospital, Sam. Why did you get the doctors to stop me? My leg is fine now. It's just a sprain, not a fracture."
"If you don't treat your sprain properly, the consequences will be disastrous. Do you want to live the rest of your life with a limp?" Samuel's expression and voice were gentle. It seemed as though Yvette was his beloved treasure, and he was afraid that she would be harmed.
Yvette sounded innocent as she replied, "Don't scare me, Sam. It's just a sprain, so I won't limp in the future, right?"
"Why would I scare you?"
"That's because you're really mean. You always like to scare me! But I'm really hungry now. I want to eat pastries from Fullman's Pastries. I'm craving their grape cake."
"Alright." Tapping his steering wheel, Samuel looked at me and hesitated.
Yet my expression remained emotionless. I wondered, "I thought Samuel prioritized Yvette over everything else. Why isn't he continuing to fawn over her?"
"Samuel, I'm going to buy the grape cake now. I'll go home quickly, so it probably won't affect my ankle."
"I'll go buy it now. Don't walk around and listen to the doctor's instructions," Samuel replied.
Yvette snorted. "I can buy it by myself. You don't have to come here. It's a pity that the shop doesn't accept deliveries. I'll have to collect it myself."
"I'm on my way. The food will arrive quickly, so don't go downstairs." After comforting Yvette, Samuel went to Fullman's Pastries and bought grape cake.
This was the Samuel I knew—willing to do everything for Yvette.
However, I didn't expect him to leave me in the hospital's carpark. He even locked the doors.
If I were still a blind woman, I would've died if Samuel had forgotten about me.
In my previous life, Samuel kicked me out of the car the moment he received Yvette's phone call. He only remembered about me five hours later. I was squatting at the side of the road for the entire duration without leaving.
Some passersby asked me if I needed help, but I was too scared since I couldn't see who they were. So, I rejected their offers to help and waited for Samuel to pick me up.
After recalling that, I inhaled deeply.
As there were cameras in the car, I continued pretending to be blind and felt around the car. In the end, I found a hammer in a compartment.
Aiming at the window, I hammered at it.
On my third try, I managed to break the window. After that, I felt for the door and opened it. Then, I left the car park.
Thankfully, I was able to escape because of Yvette this time.
I took out my cane from my bag and left the hospital with it. Then, I took the subway and went back to the university.
…
That day, I headed to the tennis club.
Hannah had already prepared my uniform for me. She previously asked about my measurements on WhatsApp, so the tennis outfit fit me perfectly.
I waved my wrists and secured the wrist guards so that I wouldn't get hurt.
"Jules, a VVIP client reserved a slot for one and a half hours with you. Your commission will be quite high, but you can choose whether to accept it or not because the client is a man."
Clearing her throat awkwardly, Hannah continued, "I posted your photo on our app, and many people reserved your slots. If you're not going to play with this VVIP, you can choose another one. From the moment I saw you, I knew that our club needed you."
I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. "Since you've already made the necessary arrangements, Ms. York, I'll meet this male client."
Hannah sighed in relief. "Alright. The session will be an hour later. You can rest in the lounge first. Don't worry, this client has great manners. Our club will ensure your safety."
"Can I familiarize myself with this place first? I need to practice."
"Okay. That would be great." Hannah led me to the tennis court.
It was the largest tennis court in the club.
As I was guessing who the VVIP was, I saw a man in sports attire walking toward me. It was him—Gideon's friend who I tried to find out about two days ago. He was called Liam Yates.
It was a coincidence because I didn't expect to meet someone who knew Gideon that day.
Liam looked at me curiously.
"Hello, Ms. Sutton."
I nodded. "Hi."
"You're pretty aloof. My name is Liam Yates."
"I'm Juliet Sutton. Let us begin our session, Mr. Yates. I don't want to waste your time because it's precious." I swung my tennis racket about, trying to familiarize myself with it.
Though I didn't meet Gideon, I wasn't anxious. After all, many people used various methods to get close to him. So, I couldn't rush things.
Liam booked me for one and a half hours. He probably wanted to test my abilities but was worried that it would be too boring to play with me for a long time.
As I played tennis with him, I realized that he was a powerful player. At the end of the match, his eyes shone brightly.
"Ms. Sutton, I'm going to book you for another hour. I'll get my friend to compete with you!"
Once he finished speaking, Liam wiped his sweat with a towel and called someone.
"Hello, Gid?"
