Chapter Seventy Six: Sharing Worries and Burdens

"Here is the lady who saved you, Sir," the nurse said to the man as she led me into the hospital room.
The man opened his eyes, looking at me.
"Hello." I waved at him.
He nodded in acknowledgment. His injured wrist had been bandaged as well as the part where he had been operated on to take out the knife with which he had been stabbed.
"I owe you for saving my life, Miss. Thank you."
"You're welcome. How's your health?"
"I'm getting better, thanks." He looked at the nurse. "Could we have some privacy, please?"
The nurse looked at me, curious, and I nodded, giving her the permission to leave.
I kept a reasonable distance from the man though.
I wasn't going to risk stepping too close to the man.
He was very suspicious at best. He had refused to disclose his identity unless I put in an appearance; I wondered who he was, and what he wanted with me.
"I heard you asked to see me. Why didn't you tell the nurses about your identity?"
"It's better I stay hidden until I gain
