Chapter 7
"Oh my God. Just look at that." Bethany said, sounding disgusted. I looked over in the direction of the cafeteria that she indicated.
I saw that that she was referring to Nate. He was behaving rowdily and was being a nuisance in the cafeteria. He was shouting loudly and knocking on the table. He had four girls hanging off his arms.
I shook my head and turned back around. "I can't believe I went out with that guy. He is so full of himself."
"There was no way you could have known that. After all, he never showed his true colours until now." Beth said.
"Well, I'm glad I got to see him for the douche he really is." I replied.
"Amen to that." Beth said and continues eating her lunch. "Hey, by the way, for the dance tomorrow. Are we getting ready at my house or yours?" She asked.
"Yours." I said. "I will come at 1 o' clock."
"Okay."
The following day was Friday and Bethany and I were getting ready for the dance. We had already done our makeup and now we were putting on our dresses.
As soon as we were finished, I heard a horn honk outside. Brian was here. Brian was our ride to go to the dance. Beth and I went downstairs and into Brian's car. Beth gave Brian a kiss, while I went into the car and sat down.
When they pull apart, Beth moved away to enter the car, but Brian did not move. He was rooted to the spot and was busy checking out Beth.
"Hey Brian, would you mind picking your jaw from off the ground and get in the car? We don't want to be late." I said? cheekily. Brian closed his mouth and snapped his head towards me and gave me a glare. I just smirked at him. Beth giggled as she opened the car door to the passenger seat.
Brian finally got in the driver's side of the car and head to our school. When we got there, the place was crowded. Brian found a parking spot and we exited the car. We went into the school building and towards the gym where the dance was being held.
Students were already on the dance floor dancing to 'What Makes You Beautiful' by One Directions. I really loved this song. I went out to the dancefloor and began to enjoy myself. Beth came and joined me and we began singing and dancing like crazy people.
After the song ended, I went to the snack table to get some punch and snacks. I poured myself some punch and took up a plate and put Doritos and Oreos on it and went and sat down. As soon as I was finished, Beth and Brian came and sat down as well.
"I'm so tired," Beth said as soon as she sits down. "No regrets though. This is the best school dance ever."
I laugh and nod my head, "I must agree."
"The place is well decorated as well. It's hard to believe this is the gym that I hate to come to." She adds and I laugh.
"I've been admiring it since I got here." Brian put in. "Especially the banner. I love the way it was made and decorated. It's awesome."
"Yeah. Julie made that." Beth said.
Brian looked around at me in shock, "Really?" He asked and I nod.
"Yes Brian. Julie is really talented, you know." Beth said.
"Wow! I would have thought that it was a professional." Brian exclaimed. "Look at you, Julz. Who would have thought you had talent." He hit me lightly on the shoulder.
"Go away, Brian." I shove his hands away. I heard another song starting to play over the stereo and I got up to dance again.
After dancing to two songs, I decided to go outside for some fresh air. A slow song had just come on, so I left Beth and Brian dancing.
I went outside the main door and began to walk in order to stretch my legs. As soon as I neared the bleachers, I saw Liam sitting under the same tree that he was the other day. I frown. I was surprise to see him here. I walk over to him.
"Hey." I said when I reach him. He looks up at me and just nods his head. Taking that as a good sign, I sat down beside him. "I'm surprise to see you here." I said.
"My mother insisted that I go and socialize." He replies without looking at me.
"But you don't feel like partying, so you're killing time out here." I surmise. He nods. "Do you mind if I keep your company?" I asked.
"Why would you want to do that? Don't miss the party because of me." He states.
"That's okay. I'm not missing anything, I would much rather stay out here with you." I said honestly.
"Why? Normally, people don't talk to me and they would just avoid me. Why do you keep talking to me?" He asked curiously.
"I like talking to you. You are a nice person, Liam. You just work hard to hide from it everyone else." I said. He looks at me then and I smile at him. Slowly but surely, I saw him return my smile with a half smile of his own. He then looks back out in front of him.
"Liam?" I call and he looks at me again. "Why do you push people away? Why do you want to be by yourself?" I asked, looking at him. I saw something changed in his eyes and he looks around again. He took awhile before he responds.
"There's no reason." He said blankly. I didn't believe him, but I decide to drop the subject. I would not push him into telling me anything.
We sat in silence for a few more minutes, when it started to rain. I got up and grab his hand to pull him up.
"Come on." I said. He stood up as well and we walked fast and went into the school building. It was only drizzling, so we did not get wet that much. Realizing that I was still holding his hand, I release it quickly.
"I'm going home now." He said to me.
"Come and dance before you go." I said to him. "You didn't even go where the dance is being held."
"I don't dance." He said.
"Oh come on. I'm sure you do. Just one dance." I held up one finger as I tried to convince him.
He looked at me for a second and I really thought that he would accept, but then he looks away from me. "I'm sorry." He mumbles and turns away and walked through the door.
I look at him as he walked away and then I turned around and went back to the gym.
