7 Chauffeur

“What are you doing standing here all alone? Have you forgotten your job here?” He asked. His eyes fell on her face and she gulped softly before taking a step backward. Ava quickly shook her head. Her eyes went from his face downward. He was dressed in a black shirt and loose trousers which was hanging on his lower waist. “Leave.” He said and Ava didn’t need to be told twice before dashing from there. As she walked away, her eyes moved to the plain door at the side she wondered what was inside the room that made Mrs Susan worried that someone might go in. When she reached downstairs, she met the chauffeur waiting for her. He opened the door for her and she quickly sat down at the back seat. As the car drove off, she pressed her chin against her hand. When the car arrived at the Mansion, Ava quickly pushed the door open without waiting for the chauffeur. She walked inside the Mansion to see her Aunt who was drinking from a glass of juice in her hand. “Aunt Jenna.” Ava hurried to her and sat down close to her Aunt. “Is everything alright? You didn’t wait for breakfast this morning and left so early for the company.” Ava asked with anxious expression. “Some of the debtors came and they threatened to claim the company but everything is settled now.” Jenna said, the corner of her lips pulled up into a smile. “What do you mean?” Ava looked at her with a confused expression. “Mrs Susan cleared the debts in exchange of you marrying her son.” Jenna replied. Ava was excited on one side that her Aunt’s debts had been cleared while on the other hand, she was scared of marrying Liam. She knew that if she refused, things would escalate for them. She didn’t want Mrs Susan to bring trouble to their home. “So we are debt free now.” Ava plastered a smile on her face. Her Aunt nodded in response. Noticing the dark circles on Jenna’s eyes, Ava spoke. “Aunt Jenna I think you should take a nap. You look tired and need some rest.” “I will sleep but not now.” Jenna said tiredly. “I still need to call Mrs Susan and appreciate her for what she did today.” “Aunt she is having something in return so don’t think you would use all the day to appreciate her.” Ava said. Jenna stood up hesitantly and walked upstairs to her room. The following day when Ava went to the Adams Mansion, she was walked upstairs to meet Lucy when she heard s voice from behind. Turning around, she saw Mrs Susan who stood in front of her room with her back against the door. “Look at the time. Is this when you come to work everyday?” The woman demanded. Ava was surprised as this was not a job but a negotiation between both parties that she would have to work to make Liam see reasons for marrying her. Not that she would be getting paid in this job. Nevertheless, she bowed her head slightly. “I am sorry Mrs Susan, I woke up late today. It would not happen again.” “I hope so because my son would marry you soon and this isn’t how you are going to behave everyday in this Mansion.” Susan said. “Alright ma.” Ava was about to turn around and go when the woman pulled her. “And who gave you the permission to leave? I am not done with you yet.” Her eyes flew wide as she glowered at Ava like she was a peasant. “Did your Aunt tell you that I have cleared off the debts you were owing?” Susan asked. “Yes, ma. Thank you very much.” Ava was raging with anger inside her. Is not that it was free. She was going to marry Liam in return for the debts she cleared. “You better act fast with why you came here or I would take the company from your Aunt and push you two from the Mansion.” Susan threatened her. Because maids were walking by frequently, Ava felt embarrassed by the words Mrs Susan was using on her. What happened to the kind side of her who wanted her to marry her son? Now this side was the cruel part who was using force on her. “Alright.” She pressed her lips in annoyance. “You may leave now.” Susan dismissed her and she quickly walked away. She walked inside Lucy room to see the young girl having breakfast in her room. “Good morning Lucy.” Ava said to gain the young girl’s attention. She snapped her head to look at Ava and her eyes widened with excitement. “Welcome Aunt Ava.” She dropped the bowl of food and stood up to meet Ava. She pulled the child into a warm hug. She brought out the story book from her bag and put it on the table to see the girl’s eyes lit up. She was a lone child who was not allowed to mingle with other children of her age for some reason. She could only play with herself in her room and even her mother doesn’t have her time. When she was done spending a good time with the girl, Ava arranged her things in her bag. She stood up to leave and turned around to see that Lucy was sleeping peacefully. A small smile came to her lips and Ava walked towards the door. At least when she gets married to Liam she wouldn’t be bored in the Mansion. She would have Lucy as her sister-in-law and someone to talk to. On her way downstairs, her eyes fell on two pair of blue cold eyes. She quickly looked away as she didn’t want to stare at him too long. He was standing at the barricade with a glass of expensive wine. He didn’t know she was standing there and she was excited he hadn’t seen her yet. She continued to walk to hear him say. “Miss Ava you must have had a good day.” He said, taking a sip from the wine. Ava’s face morphed with shock as she didn’t expect him to see her soon. “Yes I had a good time with Lucy.” She said and quickly walked away. When she reached outside the Mansion, she stood at the corner waiting for the chauffeur to come when she heard a voice behind. “Waiting for someone?” The person asked. Ava flinched in shock and she quickly turned around to see Liam. Placing her hand on her beating chest, she took a deep breath. “Yes. I am waiting for my chauffeur to pick me up.” She said and moved her gaze back to the gates of the Mansion. “I thought you drive home by yourself. Who could have known you hired a chauffeur for yourself.” He said. Ava didn’t know if Liam was mocking her or he was that ignorant that she didn’t have a chauffeur which she did have. “I have a chauffeur Sir. He is even here to pick me up.” She smiled upon hearing the sound of the gates opening. But when her eyes moved to the car that was driving inside the gates, the smile on her face dropped.
