5 Bad dream

When Ava opened the door, she made sure to sit down far away from him. Her slim body pressed against the door of the car as she didn’t want her body to rub against him. The air conditioner in the car brought some comfort on Ava as the car rode out of the Mansion. When her eyes moved to the corner where Liam was seated, she saw that he was typing on the laptop. “Is the air conditioner too cold for you?” He surprised her with his question and she nearly flinched. Not minding the air even though she was cold as she felt if it goes off, the air around them would feel too suffocating for her. “No, I am fine with it.” She responded, turning her head to the side of the window to avoid eye contact with him. When he didn’t say anything after that, she turned around to see his serious expression as his fingers ran over the keyboard. “What hour will you be coming to meet Lucy everyday?” He asked as he continued to type on the keyboard. “Around 9’0 clock every day.” She replied. Deciding to ask the question that has been going through her mind since she went to the Mansion this morning, she asked. “Why doesn’t Lucy go out to meet her friends? I mean, she’s a kid with no friends to play with. Wouldn’t that affect her mental health and cause social anxiety in the later future?” Hearing her question, he stopped typing and turned to look at her. “Lucy does not have any friends. It would be better if she stays indoors.” “But why?” She questioned. “You should learn to keep your nose out of someone’s business.” He said before continuing typing. “Where do you live?” He asked and she told him the address. He told the driver to take them there and when they arrived at the small Mansion, Ava quickly walked out of the car. She closed the door and turned around to see her Aunt at the front of the gates waiting for her. “Welcome back Ava. How did it go?” Jenna asked. “Mm. I feel tired and thirsty.” She said. Jenna pushed the gates opened and they walked inside. She asked a maid to get her a glass of water to drink and she sat down next to Jenna on the couch. The living room was not that big but it was enough for a small family like them. Her Aunt, Jenna didn’t have kids and husband of her own. After her parents passed away, Jenna decided to take her in. “So how do you see Liam now?” Jenna asked. “If it wasn’t for the debt we were owing I wouldn’t have agreed to marry him. Like seriously I don’t like Liam.” Ava replied, taking the glass from the maid. “Did he give you an hard time? What about Lucy?” Her Aunt asked. Seeing her Aunt sad expression, Ava lied. “No.” She didn’t want to worry her Aunt for anything. “So far the girl seems lively.” Ava replied. “Lunch is ready.” The maid said to them and they stood up to walk towards the dining room. The next day, Ava woke up early to get herself dressed up for the day. Walking down the stairs with her bag, her eyes scanned the living room to look for her Aunt. Not seeing anyone in the living room, she wondered if her Aunt had gone to work. She sat down in the dining room to see a maid walk towards her with tray of food. “Good morning Miss Ava.” The maid slightly bowed her head. “Morning. Where is Aunt Jenna?” Ava asked the maid. “She went to the company early this morning.” The maid replied. The toy company was the only source of income her Aunt was using to care for the family. Right now, the their debtors had seized the company papers and threatened to claim the company if they refused to clear their debts. Ava wondered if it was the problem her Aunt had gone to clear this morning. She was worried that the people would take the company from them and there would be no source of income for them to feed. “Did something happen?” She asked. “She received a call from an unknown number and she told me to serve you breakfast and she would not be around.” The maid replied. “Alright, thank you. You can go.” Ava said and she watched the maid walked away. Her appetite for the food disappeared immediately and she dropped the spoon she was holding. She could not eat anything and was worried that the company would be taken from them. She really need to find a way out to solve this problem. Taking a sip from the water, she picked her bag and left the Mansion to the Adams Mansion where she was working. She stepped inside to be greeted by the butler. She walked upstairs down the corridor and was about to open the door that belongs to Lucy when she heard footsteps behind. Turning around, she saw that it was Liam. “You came quite early today.” He said. “I thought you said you would come at nine.” “Yes.” She pressed her lips. Her hands were still holding the door knob and was waiting for him to leave before she opens the door. “You came too early. Lucy is about to have breakfast. You can go to the dining room and join them there.” Liam said. “Ohh thank you but I have eaten before coming here.” Ava said, wanting to leave his presence. Before she could open her mouth to say another word, her stomach made a small sound. She smiled out of embarrassment as she had been caught lying. “Seems like your stomach isn’t pleased about the lie.” Liam said. “You should go down for breakfast.” “Alright.” She took a deep breath and waited for some time until he was out of sight before beginning to walk downstairs. She walked downstairs and entered the dining room to see Lucy and Susan waiting for the food to arrive. Ava slowly bowed her head towards Mrs Susan. “Good morning.” “Good morning Miss Ava.” Lucy said with a wide smile. “You came at the right time. Please sit.” Susan said without glancing at her. Ava nodded her head and walked towards one of the chairs. She pulled it a bit and sat down. If she wasn’t working as a nanny for a six years old child, she would have been in bed having a good sleep. The door opened and the butler and maids walked in. The butler instructed the maids on which food to serve first. They were all dressed in a neatly ironed uniform. “Would you like some tea first, Miss?” One of the maids asked her. “Yes.” Ava nodded and took the cup of tea from the maid. She slowly took a sip from it and watched the maids serve the food on her dish. When the maids left, the room turned quiet as it was just the three of them in the dining room. Her eye moved to Mrs Susan to see the woman’s eyes were fixed on her phone. When the woman raised her head, she turned to her daughter. “Honey how was your night?” Susan asked. “I had a bad dream. I could not sleep last night.” Lucy replied. “What did you dream of?” The woman asked. “I saw Aunt Ava being chased by some masked men.” She replied and Ava snapped her head to look at the girl. “The men that used to fight with Big brother.”
