Chapter 6
Lila said to the maids, "Go catch some bugs like cockroaches, moths, and caterpillars. The more, the better."
"Rats, too. Make sure they're alive. Sirius is scared of those," Steven added.
Sirius jolted as some memories he'd lost suddenly appeared in his mind. In the past, Steven and Lila would unleash their rage on the original Sirius and get physical with him if he were to defy them. Then, they would capture various disgusting creatures and stuff them into his mouth.
Thanks to this long-term torment, the original Sirius had become obedient and compliant to a fault. It was hard to imagine there could be such biased and cruel parents in the world.
The maids looked conflicted. "The house is clean, so we won't find things like that here…"
Maisie said, "Go out and look for them, then. You have to get them, no matter how troublesome."
Jason's eyes gleamed with happiness and cruelty. He leaned against her and said, "You treat me so well, Maisie."
The four of them looked so united in their common hatred for Sirius. Suddenly, he realized he didn't need to be like this. The script had been written based on his and Maisie's story, but he couldn't use that to lie to himself anymore.
Even if Maisie's affinity level for him had hit 99%, he was still nothing more than a worthless substitute. His and Maisie's love story had already ended badly—he no longer wanted a story with a bad ending and a woman who wasn't worth his time.
Since he was alone in this world, he was better off letting go rather than being tormented and forced into doing things he didn't want.
"I'll give it up."
Everyone should've been pleased now that he'd caved, but Jason was still dissatisfied. "You just said that your script is like your child, yet you're giving it up just like that. It can't be because you have something nasty planned, right?"
Maisie warned, "You'd better not pull anything funny, Sirius. Name your conditions if you have them."
They really wanted to push him off the edge, huh?
When he thought of the divorce agreement he'd yet to sign, an idea occurred to him. He said, "Of course I have conditions. Since you guys want my hard work, you'll need to give me something in exchange."
He listed various properties and storefronts before looking at Maisie. "I'm sure you won't mind parting with a few things in exchange for a script, right? Your love for Jason should mean more to you than material things."
His words made Maisie's hesitance disappear. "Of course I don't mind. Anything that can be resolved with money isn't an issue."
She made a call, and her secretary soon arrived with a thick stack of ownership transfer agreements. Sirius took them from her and slipped the divorce agreement between two contracts.
Jason's heart ached when he saw that Maisie was about to sign the agreements. "It's not worth spending so much on a script, Maisie…"
He'd only used the valuation of the script as an excuse—he just wanted to take everything Sirius had.
To his dismay, Maisie signed them without even batting an eye. She gave away assets worth billions of dollars just like that. If he'd known things would've ended up like this, he wouldn't have snatched the project from Sirius.
However, Maisie misunderstood him. She prodded his chest and said, "Of course it's worth it, silly. Anything is worth it as long as it makes you happy, Jace."
She signed the agreements one after another. Sirius' heart leaped to his throat when he saw that the next one was the divorce agreement.
Just then, she looked up. Her odd feeling returned when she saw the nervous look on his face. For some reason, it made her feel a little anxious. It was almost as if she would lose something after signing the agreement.
She flipped the page, wanting to check its contents.
