Chapter 8
Daphne burst out laughing in her head. She could not believe such a shameless person existed in this world. What an eye-opener!
"Actually, not everybody could…" She meant to say not everybody would appreciate his status. He was just a villain. What was so impressive about that?
She started predicting when Herkoen would be brought to justice by the good people.
"Could what?" Herkoen asked.
"It's nothing. I didn't say anything," Daphne replied.
Herkoen could not figure her out. He heard very clearly that she said something, but she refused to admit what she said. Women truly were hard to read.
He became even more determined not to fall in love with women. Daphne was just a woman who might or might not be pregnant with his child, yet she already affected his emotions. He would be doomed if he fell in love with a woman in the future.
"You're too noisy." He got up and went to the cockpit.
What? He complained that she was too noisy, yet he spoke to her for so long.
Daphne rested her chin on her right hand and stared in the direction he went, praying in silence for him to stay in there.
Suddenly, she thought of the snake mark on her arm.
It was such an important matter, yet she had forgotten about it.
She noticed it the day she had her body checkup. The nurse controlling the machine was astonished when she saw the mark on her arm.
"So you already have a partner!" the nurse exclaimed.
After they found out she was pregnant, the nurse congratulated her.
At that time, Daphne was certain that the mark on her arm had something to do with Herkoen.
However, what was the meaning behind this white and almost transparent mark of a snake? Could it be that he had someone tattoo it on her when she was unconscious?
Suddenly, Britney appeared at the bedroom door, waving at Daphne.
Daphne quickly walked over.
Britney immediately started typing on the phone.
"It's done. We did it. I've shared our live location with Colonel Lester. I believe he will send someone to save us very soon." She typed.
Daphne nodded, but she was very confused about why the signals were blocked for every machine in the flying car but her phone.
However, she could only ask Lester about that after she was saved.
Both Britney and Daphne waited anxiously for help in the bedroom. In less than five minutes, sirens sounded in the air.
"It's the people sent by Colonel Lester." Britney stood up in excitement.
Daphne walked to the window with Britney's help and checked out the situation outside.
She saw two small battleships flying on either side of the flying car. At that moment, warnings sounded from the cockpit, requesting Herkoen to immediately release the hostages or they would attack.
Suddenly, a flying car appeared out of nowhere and attacked one of the battleships. However, how could a flying car bring a battleship down? The battleship immediately bombed the flying car.
In an instant, the unknown flying car started smoking and fell to the ground.
Herkoen slammed the table angrily. "What's going on? We've blocked the signal of this flying car, haven't we? How did the Hildi police find us?"
Eric was curious as well, and he checked everything. The car was able to fly normally, but other than that, there were no signals at all in any other parts of the car.
"Maybe we've been targeted by the police as soon as we entered Hildi, and they have been waiting for us to fly into the open air for us to arrest us," said Eric.
Herkoen frowned. That was the only way to explain it at the moment.
"One of our hidden flying cars has been taken down. Should we send another one to draw the attention of the battleships?" Eric asked.
"Do it."
"Yes, sir," Eric replied.
The matter of his descendant was important. Herkoen wanted to try, even if there was only a glimmer of hope. If he found out that the child was not his after Daphne gave birth, he would take her life to avenge his subordinates who died in this chase.
Daphne suddenly felt a chill down her spine in the bedroom.
"Are you feeling unwell? Your belly was aching earlier. Why don't I help you to bed so you can get some rest?" Britney asked softly.
"No need." Daphne figured someone must have been talking about her behind her back.
Lester stood in the cockpit in his military uniform.
"Colonel Lester, they've sped up. Should we crash into it?" a soldier asked.
"No! There are hostages in there." Victor immediately stopped him.
He had been working under Lester for years, and he had never seen Lester going to the scene himself because of a hostage. That showed how important the people in the flying car were to Lester. Also, there was a risk of bringing the flying car to the ground if they were to fly right into it.
"Get the flying car under our control while ensuring the safety of the hostages in it," Lester ordered.
"Yes, sir."
Daphne's identity was special. He absolutely could not let her and her child fall into the hands of the Renegade Coalition. If they learned that Herkoen had a child, they would become even more out of control. At the same time, Lester also wanted to keep the fact that Daphne was a pure human a secret.
If the major galaxies found out that a pure human existed and her fertility was very strong, it would be hard to imagine how crazy they would get. The galaxies might join forces to get rid of Hildi.
The battleship that Lester was on gave another warning, but Herkoen still did not respond at all. Then, the battleships started to sandwich the flying car from the front and the back.
Eric immediately reduces the speed of the flying car. He almost crashed into the battleship.
Both Britney and Daphne lost their balance. Fortunately, Britney protected Daphne with her weak psionic strength.
"It's safer for you to lay in bed, Ms. Miller. I'm afraid we're going to experience more of this later," said Britney.
"Alright." For the sake of the child in her belly, Daphne did as she was told and lay in bed.
Britney stayed by the bed in case Daphne fell off during the crash.
Eric made a turn, wanting to flee from the side. At that moment, a few flying cars came up and completely blocked both sides.
"Damn it!" Herkoen cursed.
He had planned to come and kill Daphne, but he did not think that the authorities in Hildi would mobilize small battleships.
He thought of Daphne's medical report. The attitude of the Hildi police gave him no choice but to suspect that the report was real.
Maybe the child in her belly was truly his.
However, he could not be bothered with all that anymore. He unleashed his psionic strength and attacked the pilot of the other party.
To his surprise, his attack was blocked by another powerful force of psionic strength.
He immediately recognized the owner of that psionic strength. It was Lester.
Why would he personally come over?
Oh yes, Daphne had been living in his manor. If the medical report had not been faked, then he indeed had to come in person because Daphne was an important female.
"We can promise to let you leave unharmed if the safety of the hostages can be ensured. How about that?" Lester asked.
"Hmph. A colonel personally came to capture me over such a small matter. Looks like this female is quite important," Herkoen replied.
Both of them started communicating using their psionic strengths.
Lester fell silent for two seconds before he said, "You have a minute to consider."
Herkoen looked at their flying car that had been surrounded and pondered for a moment. "Eric, can you speed out of here after we either gain or lose altitude?"
Before Eric could reply, police sirens sounded on the ground. A few police cars were following them on land. Other than the drivers, all the police officers were aiming their guns at them.
"The situation right now is extremely bad for us. How about we abandon this car and escape? This car has a self-destruct device. As long as we leave one second before the explosion, the flying cars in the surroundings will certainly explode. The battleships would suffer minor damages as well.
"When that happens, we won't have to worry about the police catching up to us," Eric suggested.
Without any hesitation, Herkoen agreed. "Alright."
