"...Not yet," Kieran replied.
"Perfect," Maeve said with a quick smile. "None of us have eaten. I'll invite Mr. Hackett to join us in the dining hall."
"But..."
"I'll cook myself!" Maeve blurted out.
After all, apologies had to come from the heart. Earlier, Lyra had mentioned that a man like Levi—tough on the outside, but soft on the inside—was best handled with patience and persistence.
"Ms. Scott, there's really no need..." Kieran started to say.
"No trouble at all. None of us have eaten yet," Maeve replied quickly, already racing downstairs.
Just then, Charlie and Lyra had just returned from their candlelit dinner, satisfied and relaxed. They were caught off guard when Maeve pulled them over to sit on the couch.
"What's going on?" Charlie asked, confused. "Isn't the engagement banquet still a while away? Are we celebrating it early?"
"Something like that! I'm about to cook dinner. Stay and eat with us," Maeve said.
"But we just ate..." Lyra replied, a little bewildere
