Chapter 17

When Jade returned home and saw Jackson walking down the stairs, she sat down huffily and said, “Jackson, you won’t believe just how shameless Yvonne Yates is. We have all underestimated her in the past.” “Mom, you went to look for her?” Jackson frowned slightly. “I didn’t look for her. She suddenly got in touch with me this morning and demanded that I give her a hundred million dollars.” Jade was determined to twist the truth to slander Yvonne. “She got in touch with you? Why would she suddenly reach out for you all of a sudden?” Jackson asked. “Maybe because she was still unsatisfied with what happened in the past! She’s been living such a poor and unhappy life after the divorce. Perhaps she feels miserable now that your business has grown so much and you are getting engaged to Fiona. So she decided to extort me for money. She said that she would expose the truth about Fiona’s previous pregnancy and drag both of your reputations through the mud if we don’t give her the money.” “Did she say that?” “Yes, I’m telling you the truth. When has your mom ever lied to you?” Jade was ready when she met Yvonne. She fished a pen recorder out from her bag and played the recording of her meeting with Yvonne for Jackson. Jackson’s eyes turned black as he listened to Yvonne’s voice demanding a hundred million dollars and threatening his mother in a cold voice. Jade could tell that her son was angered by what he heard. “Jackson, Yvonne Yates is bad news, and nothing good will come out if she does go and expose Fiona. You need to come up with a way to kick her out of South City and make sure she never returns!” “I understand, Mom. Don’t look for her. I’ll take care of this!” Jackson grabbed his jacket and left the house after he finished speaking. He was about to drive the car when he received a notification on his phone. It was a message: “You have withdrawn twenty thousand dollars from your bank card ending ******.” Jackson was stunned. That was from the bank card that he gave Yvonne the other day, and she had already started withdrawing money from it. It seemed like she was in dire need of money. He was still lost in his thoughts when he received another text. “You have transferred fifty thousand dollars from your bank card ending ******.” Jackson thought for a while before he phoned his assistant, James. “Look up Yvonne’s current financial situation. Check to see if she needs money!” “President Miller, I was just about to call you,” James answered. “Young Madam’s uncle has been hospitalized and is diagnosed with uremia. I heard he needs a kidney transplant.” “Is that so? Contact the transplant donation center immediately!” Jackson immediately headed to the hospital after hanging up the phone. Jackson hurried toward the lift after obtaining Wesley’s room number from the front desk. He met Zachary there. The man who had never done a day’s work in his life was holding a fruit basket in one hand and holding his phone with the other hand, saying, “Where are you? You went home? Which ward number?” When he hung up, he turned around and saw Jackson. Smiling, he said, “Oh, President Miller? What a coincidence! Are you here to visit a patient too?” Jackson felt uncomfortable bumping into Zachary over at the hospital. “What are you doing here, Mr. Quimby?” “My woman’s uncle has been hospitalized after being diagnosed with uremia. I’m here to visit him and also get to know him to strengthen our bond at the same time.” The expression on Jackson’s face grew sour when he heard that. He did not even need to guess who the woman Zachary was referring to. A hostile feeling brewed in Jackson. Instead of entering the lift to the wards, he walked away and stood at the main entrance for half an hour before he saw Yvonne dashing in with a thermos in her hands. Jackson stepped into her path and blocked her way. “Did you ask my mother for money?” Yvonne took a step back with a disgusted look on her face. “Are you crazy?” The hatred in her eyes aggravated Jackson. Instead of controlling his emotions as he had initially planned to, he let his anger resonate in his tone of voice. “Yvonne Yates, why are you acting so high and mighty? If you need money, you can just say so. Do you know how you look like when you sneak around looking for money?” “What do you mean? Explain yourself, Miller!” Yvonne’s face turned red. Every time she saw Jackson, she remembered how he had left her penniless. “Hey, Miller, I won’t ask for a stinking penny from you even if I had to beg on the streets. Don’t disgust me with your words, alright? “Haha, take a look at this!” Jackson pulled up the text messages from the bank on his phone and showed them to Yvonne. After being momentarily stunned, Yvonne began laughing as she said, “Did you think I withdrew that money?” “Who else would it be if it’s not you?” “I don’t know who it was either. But Miller, don’t you have a lot of money to spare? Weren’t you trying to stop me from begging you for money? When I heard you spew out all those pretentious bullsh*t while also having an affair, I was worried for your soul in the afterlife. That’s why I donated your stinking card to the beggar as your good deed. He must have been withdrawing the money. Thank God for your kind deed!” Yvonne laughed as she spoke those words. Jackson’s face turned red with anger. He was already enraged, and Yvonne’s mocking laughter provoked him even further. He said furiously, “If you’re so noble and virtuous, why did you ask my mom for money?” “Ask your mom for money? Hahaha, did your mom give it to me?” Yvonne laughed again. “Miller, do you think I’ve not learned what kind of characters are in your family? Just a bunch of stingy *ssholes who aren’t willing to spare a single cent. Let’s not mention a hundred million dollars. Even a measly million dollars would make you wince, wouldn’t it? I’ve only asked for the hundred million dollars because I knew exactly the kind of people your family is. To be honest, I couldn’t care less about your stinking money!” Her words were hurtful, and there was a disgusted look on her face. Jackson’s heart ached terribly in its core. How did this happen? How did this end up like that? She was in the wrong. How did she have the gall and confidence to express herself in such a manner?
