Chapter 22
Makenna’s POV.
The cool night air ate at my skin as I walked and a ripple of goosebumps spread down my arms. I rubbed my bare arms, sucking in a breath. I’d decided a walk down the beach was what I needed to end the day. My body might feel cool on the outside but deep down inside me there was a storm brewing.
I knew that if anything happened between Wolfe and Mackenzie, it would be my fault. I’d given her the go-ahead by acting like I didn’t care what she did. I’d given her the impression that Wolfe was my client and nothing more. At the time, it had seemed like the reasonable thing to do considering how ambitious Kenzie was, but now that I was thinking about it, maybe I should have stood my ground and told her to back off.
I almost laughed out loud. Kenzie backed off from a handsome man who she’d set her sights on? Not a chance in hell.
I walked further down the beach, enjoying the calm scenery as I stood at a spot to watch the waves. The water washed up to the sand, but it didn’t
