Chapter 14
Adelaide
"I think I might surprise him after the wedding. It's also his birthday." Adelaide told her as Erica brushed her hair. Doctor Marshall was doing some physical exam on Adelaide while they talked. Checking her pulse, sensing the baby.
"Speaking of weddings, we should look into venues later today. Throw that title of yours around a bit." Erica wiggled her brows at her. Adelaide giggled. She definitely felt more at ease.
"Everything looks good so far." She said.
"Doctor Marshall..." Adelaide started.
"Stephanie." The doctor corrected her.
"Stephanie, what kind of doctor are you exactly?" She asked her.
"I'm a healer, which is why I do best in therapy. I will search for a doctor with the highest recommendation in the pack." She told her, resting a hand on Adelaide 's shoulder. "Congratulations again, Luna." She smiled before leaving them. Adelaide let out a sigh as Erica finished brushing her hair.
"Hey ladies." Damion knocked on the door after Stephanie left. "Geoff is about to land."
Adelaide stood nervously waiting for Geoff to get off the plane. Her stomach was rocking so hard, she made three trips to the restroom while waiting. She washed out her mouth numerous times, praying to God she didn't stink of vomit.
"Here." Erica said, passing her a mint and a water bottle. Adelaide took the mint immediately, her eyes back on the hallway where a crowd of people were walking through now. He would be towering over them all, yet she didn't see him. Did his plane not arrive yet after all?
"Adelaide ?" A voice called her name from the crowd, one she had not heard in months. Her eyes fell on a tall man with brown hair, his slim body covered by a bulky winter jacket and jeans. Adelaide couldn't believe her eyes.
"Dad?" She asked as he walked up to her. He smiled at her, pulling off his glasses after they fogged up, showing the tears in his eyes.
"Hey Pumpkin." He said to her. Her bottom lip quivered as she threw her arms around his neck.
"Daddy." She cried softly. He wrapped his arms around her, patting her back.
"I missed you so much, Adelaide ." He told her. She pulled back from his embrace.
"How are you here? Why are you here?" She asked him. He chuckled at her, stepping to the side.
"You can thank him." He told her. Her eyes moved away from him to Geoff who was the last one out from the hall, his hair a mess, his cheeks slightly flushed. He was only wearing a button up and jeans when he spotted her. All the hurt she felt, the anger that fumed all vaporized as she stared at her Mate. Everyone around them faded away and she only saw him. He dropped his bag on the ground. She broke out into a sprint, charging him. He opened his arms, picking her up and clutched her to him. She wrapped her arms and legs around him, crying into his shoulder. One arm supported beneath her with the other was on the back of her head. She heard him inhaling her scent, shuddering from each inhale.
"You're home... You're finally home." She cried. She heard a very soft sniffle come from him, surprising her. She pulled back, looking into his terrified eyes.
"I'm home." He said before kissing her. She melted.
"Dad, I can't believe you're here." Adelaide said as they got back home. Elias appeared from upstairs with Damion, letting out a shrill of excitement. He made it half way down the stairs before jumping off. Geoff caught him mid air, chuckling as his little brother started to choke him with a hug. Nathan stretched his back, looking around her home.
"I can't believe you live here." He said, looking skeptical. Erica rushed off to the kitchen with Damion following behind her. Adelaide took her father's jacket and hung it up.
"It's a long story." She said, putting her hair behind her ear. Nathan looked at her, letting out a sigh and set his hands on her shoulders.
"We have all the time now." He told her. She smiled at him before leading him into the living room. Geoff followed in with Elias in his arms, taking a seat beside Adelaide . Elias glanced over to Adelaide , crawling out of Geoff's arms and sat in her lap.
"Wait a minute, I'm gone for a month and you switched sides on me?" Geoff asked him. Elias pouted, making Geoff sigh and put his hand over Elias' face. Adelaide giggled before making eye contact with her dad. He was watching her with a smile on his face.
"You've grown up so much. I didn't realize how much until I was invited to your wedding." He told her. Adelaide looked at Geoff.
"Isn't it tradition for the father to walk the bride down the aisle?" Geoff asked her.
"Well yes, but..." She looked between them. "You actually went to get him?" She asked him.
"He traveled to tell me what happened." Nathan said, his smile dropping. "I knew something was up. It wasn't like you to push us away. You've always been so family oriented." He lowered his gaze.
"I'm okay. Really. Geoff has been a huge help." She looked over to him. He reached an arm around her, rubbing her arm.
"Though, I do have to admit that hearing about you getting married to a King wasn't exactly the kind of news I was expecting." Nathan said, rubbing the back of his neck. Adelaide lowered her gaze, brushing her fingers through Elias' hair slowly. He purred against her chest, snuggling in more.
"I came here to escape Jasper, but he ended up following me anyways." Her eyes darkened at the bad memories. They seemed such a long time ago, yet it was just a couple months ago that she saw him.
"What happened with him? When I tried contacting him about where you were, his phone was shut off. It was like he went off the grid." Nathan looked over to her.
"He's..." She hesitates, looking down at Elias, seeing that his eyes were closed and his breathing was even.
"I took care of him." Geoff finished for her. She glanced up at him before getting to her feet. She cradled Elias in her arms before heading upstairs.
"Let me go lay him down." She said to them before disappearing upstairs. After she lain Elias down in her old bed, she looked at his peaceful face, his black locks casting shadows over his forehead. She brushed them away, sniffling slightly.
"Are you okay?" Geoff spoke up from the doorway. She glanced back at him as he walked over. She returned her gaze back to Elias, putting the blanket up to his chest, making sure that Momo was tucked in with him.
"He's come a long way." She said to him. She peered down at the bite mark on her arm. "He looked so sad after he bit me, and scared." She moved her gaze back to Elias again.
"Adelaide ," he spoke her name softly, "can we talk?"
