Chapter 33: A Tangled Web Tightens
The missing person report felt like a physical blow. Friesland stared at the details – a young woman, Emily Harris, last seen leaving a local market, a vague description of a dark carriage with unfamiliar markings. The similarities to the previous disappearances were too glaring to ignore.
"Any leads on the carriage?" he asked Harris, his voice tight.
Harris shook his head. "Nothing yet, sir. We're following up on all the leads we have, but it's like she vanished into thin air."
Friesland couldn't shake the image of Elizabeth's face, the vulnerability in her eyes. He knew he had to act fast.
"Alert the entire force," he ordered, his voice firm. "We canvass the town, every inch of it. Focus on areas where the carriage might have been seen."
Harris saluted and hurried out, leaving Friesland alone with his mounting dread. He knew the Blackwoods were somehow involved, but without concrete evidence, his hands were tied.
