Chapter 4

She strikes again. "Now I know what you're talking about." I stared at him and shake my head. "One. Do I look like a gold-digger? Trust me, if I am, it seems I'm not digging good because I'm still living here in the slums of New York. Two. Do you I look like the type to sleep with a man who's old enough to be my father?" My rhetorical question hung in the air. "Well no, I'm not. Sorry to say I prefer men in my age group. I leave those things for my sister. I presume she's your father's mistress?" Richard came over and placed my coffee on the table. I said Thank you and he gave me a smile and left to serve the next table. Mr. Carter was just looking at me intensely. "Since you're not answering I guess she is." I said then start sipping my coffee. "I knew you'd deny it and that why I need proof. I want to see your birth certificate, your ID, your doctor report and your Driver's License." I raised my brow at him, what exactly was he playing at. Why would I lie my identity? "Hmm...you're not a very good observer, you'd have noticed I don't have a car, thus no driver's license. That expired years ago. You can have a copy of all the other documents. Hell! You can keep them." I said with a smile on my face. This was the joke of the century. Me being mistaken for my sister, again. She always seems to know the right times to ruin my life. "Where are the documents?" "Do you think I walk on the road everyday carrying documents like those?" he reminded silent leaving me to answer my question. "No, I don't. There at my apartment, the only thing I have with me is my ID and Subway pass." He reminds silent, but he didn't break eye contact. Not knowing exactly what to do, I turn and look out the window. His face was too beautiful to look at especially since he probably hated me, based on his looks. "Okay, then I'm coming home with you then." He replied still not convince that I'm not who he's looking for. "Mhhm...sure. But I don't know you and I don't trust you. I want to see some ID now." I don't even have regular men I know coming home with me, so why the hell should I trust that this man who was stalking me yesterday. Because he's the sexiest man you've seen. I'm sure for a fact that he was indeed the most handsome I've seen but his attitude and personality ruin his beautiful looks. I looked at my stalker as he took out his wallet. He took out his ID and place it on the table, facing me. I took it up and I scanned it with my eyes after which I placed it back on the table. "So your name is Alexander Javier Carter." What a nice name for a mean man. "You're 30, you look more like 50 to me but who am I to judge?" I smiled with my statement and brought the coffee cup to my face finishing it off. I could tell that he was angry and furious at me by the way he was staring at me. But who cares? He made me lose my job. No, your sister made you lose your job. Again Mr. Carter cleared his throat, I look up at him to see him eyeing me. "Are you done yet?" he asked. I looked down at my cup and nod. He raised his hands to call over Richard. Richard came with the receipt in his hand I began to take out my purse. I heard Mr. Carter spoke. "No. I'll pay, after all, I dragged you in here in the first place." "Okay," After paying, he gets up and I followed. We exit the store and then he starts walking in the opposite direction from the subway station. I called out. "The subway is this way," "I don't do subways," Well he's boasty. "I have a car, follow me." He commands and I obeyed his instruction and followed closely behind. I was doing something crazy. I was following a complete stranger to his car, but it made sense. He has the answers to questions that I needed answers to, why did he make me lose my job? And who is the baby my sister left in his office? I hissed my teeth, Alliyah always seems to mess up my life with every opportunity she gets. She wasn't always a bad sister, she became bad when she was offered a modelling contract. That had changed her to someone mean and cruel. A few minutes after we passed Masons and Sons, he walked up to a 2018 Silver Audi. He opened his door then turn to me, "Get in." I rolled my eyes then walked over to the passenger side, opening the door I got in. After giving him the directions to my apartment, we drove in a tense and awkward silence. Ten minutes later we were parked in front of the building. As we exit the vehicle I went through my bag for my keys for the front door, even though I might not need it. The door had been giving problems for a while now and the landlord couldn't afford to fix it. All we had to do was pray that no one breaks in on us. When we reached the door, it was opened like I predicted. Walking ahead of Mr. Carter, I enter the little lobby and pressed the bottom for the elevator. The door of the elevator slid open and we entered. I pressed the number of my floor and the elevator started to move. There wasn't much space in the elevator, it could only carry around five to six persons at a time. Even though it was just the two of us in there, it felt like more before of the tension and awkwardness between the two of us.
