27. ANGEL
I was seated between Nate and Mason across from their parents. Lucas sat at the head of the table and his wife was across from him on the other end of the table.
Aside from stiff greetings, nobody had spoken a word.
The main course has already been served and the dishes taken away. We were waiting for the second dish to be served.
Their father cleared his throat, eyes darting between his sons and then lingering on me for a few seconds before he focused on Lucas.
“Has the problem been sorted?”
Lucas glanced at me. “No, I haven’t found a solution to the portals yet,” he answered.
“What are you going to do about it?”
His eyes narrowed. “I don’t have many options here. The people have been warned to stay clear of the portals and let me know if they come across one.”
“Where do they lead?”
“To the human world apparently,” their mother muttered, narrowed eyes locking with mine.
“One of the portals,” Lucas clarified. “The portal closed soon after Angel came through it.”
