Chapter 695 A Distant Return
I got the news just as I was waking up.
The past few days, I had been adjusting my body clock, preparing to head back to Erewhon without disrupting work. When Jack's call came in, I assumed he was about to let me know they were returning.
"Alisa is in trouble. Stay at home and don't go anywhere. I'll come get you," he said.
"Okay," I replied, feeling a heavy knot form in my chest.
I didn't ask for details, but I knew it couldn't be good. There was background noise on his end, loud and chaotic. He was supposed to be at Summer's party. What could've gone wrong at a simple celebration?
What happened to Alisa?
She had been glowing these past weeks. She had regained her energy and looked healthier than ever. Her post-birth check-up results had come back clear, so how could anything have gone wrong?
I paced back and forth in the living room, my right eye twitching uncontrollably—a bad omen if I'd ever had one.
Then, my phone lit up with a breaking news alert.
