By the time we landed back in Erewhon, it was early the next morning.
I stepped off the plane in a haze of exhaustion, only to hear Astrid's familiar voice calling out to me. "Rinatta! Over here!"
I turned and saw her running toward me. Without hesitation, she threw her arms around me in a tight hug.
"Thank God, you're okay. I was so worried," she said, her voice catching as if she was about to cry.
I touched the damp spot on my neck where her tears had landed. "You missed me that much, huh?"
"Shut up! I was just worried about you, that's all," she shot back, quickly wiping her tears away. "How could you get arrested? What's wrong with those police?"
As she ranted about the situation's absurdity, she dragged me toward the exit, not even noticing Deacon trailing behind us. He grabbed the handle of my suitcase, sighing dramatically.
