Chapter 11
Cynthia was baffled. She sure as hell was not trying to seduce him!
"Too bad. I'm not one of those shallow men, so don't try your tricks on me." Zachary scoffed.
Cynthia was speechless. "I…"
"Zach…" She was about to curse him out when Adam walked in, carrying a tray of medicine. Seeing the two of them in such a compromising position, his expression was one of utter shock.
"Oh my, I seem to have come at the wrong time! Carry on, carry on!"
Zach had always maintained his pristine reputation. Even during games of truth or dare, he'd rather punish himself with drinks rather than perform public displays of affection.
Yet he was now in such an intimate pose with Janice? Had the sun risen in the west today? How could Adam be so tactless? He immediately turned to leave.
Only then did Cynthia finally realize the intimate position they were in, and she quickly pulled away from Zachary's arms. She was flustered and defensive as she said, "It's not what you think! I almost fell and accidentally ended up in his arms—that's all. Nothing happened!"
Even so, falling into his arms and not being pushed away was significant for someone like Zachary.
Adam replied with a teasing smile, "Janice, there's no need to be shy. Zach finally has some romantic interest! You should take the initiative and seize the chance. Good luck!"
Cynthia was tongue-tied. Did this man not understand a single word she said?
Wait, did he say Janice?
"I'm not Janice!"
Adam's expression shifted as he stared at her firm and slightly irritated expression. For a moment, he was stunned. He then quickly panicked as he walked over.
"Janice, are you okay? Do you remember running into the road and almost being hit by a car? It wasn't a real collision, just a scrape. You fainted from the shock, and when I saw it was you, I called Zach. Could it be that you've lost your memory? Crap! If you've lost your memory, what am I going to do?"
Cynthia was speechless. She understood now. This man had hit her and mistaken her for her sister! And Zachary likely assumed she had deliberately appeared in front of him, which explained his earlier accusations.
What a misunderstanding—but she wasn't going to take the blame!
Cynthia turned to Zachary and said, "Your friend hit me and brought me back here. Forget that you're blind, but I didn't think your friend would be just as blind!"
Her words carried the implication that she would never seduce him!
Zachary's handsome face turned icy in an instant. It was clear she was mocking him indirectly, calling him blind and implying his friends were no better. She was probably mocking them for being birds of a feather.
He let out a cold chuckle. "You weren't trying to scam us? Then why don't we check the surveillance footage?"
Cynthia was choked up. She had been fleeing from Liam and had rushed out in a panic, so she did bear some responsibility. But accusing her of scamming them? Absolutely not!
"I acted out of carelessness. If I were scamming you, I would've demanded compensation by now. But fine. Since you're both blind, I won't bother arguing with you. Here's your consultation fee—go see an eye doctor as soon as possible. Goodbye. I hope we never meet again!"
With that, she grabbed her bag from the cabinet. She pulled out ten dollars, slapped it onto the table, and hobbled out with a limp.
Zachary and Adam were both speechless.
This woman was ferocious! Everyone in the world treated Zachary with the utmost respect and courtesy, yet here she was, outright mocking him. Did she even know who Zachary Beaver was?
Meanwhile, Cynthia didn't care who he was. All she felt for him was hatred.
Years ago, she could have gone to a good university, become an accomplished person, and fall in love with Noah Grant. They would then have a sweet relationship that led to marriage and children, and it would've been a simple, beautiful life.
But that night had turned her world upside down. Everyone labeled her as a disgrace, an unwed mother. She no longer had the right even to like Noah.
Now, her adoptive mother had even sold her to that old man. She never wanted to see Zachary again!
"Don't go..." At that moment, a soft, childlike voice rang out, stopping her in her tracks. Cynthia instinctively looked down toward the sound, and her entire body froze in shock.
