Chapter 10

Back at the villa, Zachary stepped into the medical room on the third floor with an air of composed elegance. "How is she?" It wasn't that he cared much for Janice, but as his future wife and the mother of his child, he naturally felt a certain sense of responsibility toward her. Seeing him return, Adam quickly replied, "No major issues. The little one is perfectly fine, but Janice has a scrape on her knee and fainted mainly due to exhaustion. But Zach, I remember Janice being in great health before. "This time, the test results show a significant decline in her overall condition. She's in terrible health. Are you mistreating Janice?" Zachary remained silent in the face of Adam's rapid-fire questions, yet his noble demeanor remained unruffled. That was because… The woman lying on the bed had a small, fragile frame and a pale complexion. Under the harsh lighting, she looked like a broken rag doll—so thin and frail it evoked pity. However, it wasn't Janice. It was Cynthia! This woman—previously by that old man's side—was now posing as Janice in his home? What was she plotting? "Don't bother with her. Once she wakes up, have her leave." "What? That's not right!" Adam grabbed Zachary as he turned to leave, puzzled. "Did you have a fight with Janice? Even if you did argue, she's injured and weak right now. This is when she needs care the most. As her fiancé and a man, you're obligated to look after her. I don't care! You stay here, and I'll go prepare her medicine." Without waiting for Zachary's refusal, Adam dashed off. Bringing Zach and Janice together was his mission—no matter the time or place! Zachary stood rooted to the spot, his chiseled features growing icier by the second. Looking at Cynthia's face, he couldn't help but recall the image of her in the old man's arms and the information he had seen. Striding over, he picked up the glass of water on the table. The icy water drenched her face, jarring Cynthia awake instantly. Her eyes snapped open to see the tall, cold man standing at her bedside. Dressed in an all-black suit, even his tie and watch matched the somber tone. From her angle, his entire presence radiated the air of a king towering above all, sending chills down her spine. She gasped and bolted upright. "Zachary! Why are you here? Where is this place?" Her reaction was one of utter shock. Zachary glared at her coldly. Never one to waste words on people he deemed unworthy, he simply said, "Get out." His voice was icy, merciless, and curt. Cynthia shuddered, unable to comprehend where his anger was coming from. She was utterly bewildered. She vaguely remembered running out of the club in a hurry to avoid Liam and possibly being hit by a car… What happened after that was a blank. But why was Zachary looking at her as if she owed him millions? Plus, did he just tell her to leave? As if she cared to be near a man this blind! After a slight scoff, Cynthia got up, flinging off the blanket to leave. However, the moment her feet touched the ground, sharp pain shot through her knee. She yelped. Her body gave out, and she collapsed uncontrollably toward Zachary's chest. Instinctively, she reached out and clung tightly to his tall frame for support. The suddenness of it all left her frail body fully pressed against his sturdy chest. Her slender arms wrapped around him, and his broad, imposing figure became her sole pillar of support. A man and a woman in such an intimate position was too suggestive to ignore! Zachary's spine stiffened in shock. To his disbelief, he didn't feel repulsed by a woman like her. Unwilling to acknowledge the unwarranted emotion rising within him, he suppressed the stirring in his blood. Lowering his gaze, his eyes grew colder as they fixed on her. "Is this how you seduce men, with such cheap tricks?"
