Fifteen minutes later, driven insane by curiosity, I got up, marched over, pulled open the drawer and picked up the paper.
It was the divorce agreement, signed by both of us, dated the day after I almost strangled ‘Mia.’

He said he would mail the paper to the family court and got it approved.

‘Honey, I just left the hospital. On my way back to the office now. Have you had lunch?’

‘Do you want me to order you some takeout?’
‘I can do that myself.’
He sensed something was off in my tone. ‘Honey, what’s wrong?’
‘Nothing. Just wondering when we are getting remarried. I’m still technically single, you know.’
‘Um, I’ll see what I can do. Why don’t you—’
‘Shall I make an appointment with the registry office? How about tomorrow morning?’
‘Uh, I don’t think they are open for business tomorrow.’
‘Why not?’
