CHAPTER TWO HUNDRED AND SIXTY FOUR - An Uneasy Silence

Over the next few days, Rebecca tried to put the mystery out of her mind. She spent her time exploring the parts of the mansion she was allowed to access, reading in the vast library, and even venturing into the surrounding countryside for short walks. But no matter where she went, she couldn't shake the feeling of being watched. Strange occurrences began to pile up. One night, she woke to the sound of footsteps in the hallway outside their room. When she opened the door to investigate, the corridor was empty, but a cold breeze brushed past her, raising goosebumps on her skin. Another day, while reading in the library, she heard what sounded like whispered conversations coming from behind the bookshelves. But when she went to investigate, she found nothing but dusty old tomes. Doors would creak open on their own, and more than once, Rebecca caught glimpses of shadowy figures out of the corner of her eye. When she turned to look, they would vanish.
