CHAPTER 73 A RESEMBLANCE
A flicker of light from a nearby window caught Michael's attention, and he jerked his gaze upward, his eyes locking onto the second-story window of an old, abandoned factory. A shadow moved behind the broken glass, its silhouette unmistakable.
They weren't alone.
Michael's gaze flicked to the ground, the patter of the rain revealing a single trail of footprints leading from the window to a side door. Footprints that matched the size and tread of Madison's shoes.
His heart pounding, Michael grabbed Asad's arm, pulling him towards the door.
As they drew closer to the door, they saw that the footprints trailed off into a thin line of mud, indicating that whoever had been standing there had lingered for a moment before entering the building. But the mud itself was significant; it wasn't the same color as the sludge-like puddles in the street, suggesting that whoever had left the footprints had stepped in something else.
