Chapter 33
Outside the window, the blossoms had fallen, covering the ground in a blanket of white. Winter had passed, spring had arrived, and before anyone knew it, Ottaster was already nearing summer.
Maisie gazed out the window, her eyes filled with a desolate expression Lillian had never seen before. Maisie said, "People always need to find something to occupy themselves so they can forget certain things. If I don't keep moving or seeing the world, I'll remain stuck in the past, unable to move forward."
She looked at Lillian, smiling softly, but her smile seemed to be hiding sadness. "I don't want to remember that time, so I have to leave."
Lillian stared into her eyes, her heart suddenly constricting.
It suddenly dawned on Lillian that Maisie wasn't as carefree or strong as she had imagined. The mask she wore in the stage play, once put on, was hard to take off. The reason she could move on after betrayal was because someone was there, supporting her every step of the way.
