Chapter 13
Tobias frowned when he looked at the brown color of the coffee, and she felt troubled.
She forgot to ask his boss what kind of coffee he liked. Some men don't like to drink milk.
She froze in place, she thought about whether to ask him if he only drank espresso. Tobias had already stepped out of the rest room before she could ask. "Bring it out when you're done, I'll drink it later."
Wendy felt a little embarrassed and she could only bite the bullet and take the coffee out.
Then she stood aside and waited for his next instructions.
Tobias turned his head to the side and he saw her look of anxiety.
He narrowed his eyes slightly, he tilted his head towards the sofa and said, "Sit down."
Wendy was a little nervous.
"President, about the document," she started, keeping in mind her original goal.
Tobias nodded. "No need to stand, go ahead, sit down."
Wendy finally understood what he wanted now. He wanted her to report it while sitting down.
She didn't expect that a report could be written in such a detailed manner. All aspects of the budget were meticulously written down, from steel beams to paint all the way down to last nail. In the past, when she was in Gu, she knew that this kind of budget must be reported to the president, but she remembered that only the final summary statement was required.
Wendy's throat quickly went dry, at times the president had to tell her to stop and repeat the details again.
The two discussed for nearly forty minutes, and it was almost twelve o'clock. She was a little hungry, but the budget was less than half done.
A knock on the door interrupted Wendy's voice.
Joe entered the office and he was taken aback when he saw her, he didn't expect the report to last this long.
There was a meeting in the last half hour of the morning, but the president sent him a text message to cancel it. He shook his head in secret. He saw Wendy's throat and he poured her a glass of water.
"Thank you," Wendy said as she smiled at him.
Joe nodded and smiled back.
"The project in Malaysia can't be delayed. Go pack up and get ready to go," his voice came from behind the desk.
He didn't leave the office immediately. He asked him, "Is there anything else?"
Tobias flipped through a copy of the report. He had an abnormal blush on his face. Joe frowned slightly, he glanced at Wendy next to him, and then asked clearly, "President Lu, I won't be around for a few days. Should I transfer a secretary from one of the departments?"
Tobias didn't look up. "No, it's just a few days."
When Joe walked out of the office, Tobias leaned back on his chair, his exhaustion could no longer be concealed.
Wendy saw that his bare skin was reddish, and his lips were a little dry and chapped. Although his eyes were still had a serious look, she could see they were red from a lack of sleep.
She knew that Tobias was a workaholic. She guessed that he stayed up all night working.
She hesitated for a bit, but she decided to take a step forward and she said, "President Lu, why don't we take a break first. I'll come back in the afternoon to continue the report." She had a mild stomach problem. If she didn't eat on time, her stomach would feel very uncomfortable.
Tobias listened to her, he put down the report in his hand, and looked straight at her with his bottomless eyes, as if he was a little dissatisfied in her work.
When Wendy couldn't bear the pressure in his eyes, he coughed softly, and his voice was hoarser than before, "We'll continue this later, go out and have a nice meal."
Wendy noticed something wrong with him.
He didn't stay up all night, he just had a cold and a fever.
There were a dozen male and female secretaries on the sixty-sixth floor. A little cold should be easy to deal with.
She bowed down, turned around and left the president's office.
She wasn't a workaholic. She liked working, but she wouldn't let it reach the point where she ignored her own health. Moreover, the president was already sick. If she continued to stay and report on the project, others would think she had other intentions.
As she closed the door, she saw the president raise his neck uncomfortably and he pulled off his dark green tie. She also saw him lick his chapped lips.
Wendy went out for some lunch and she immediately went back to the company to do the report, but Director Yang immediately approached her. "Wendy, the president is sick. You don't need to continue to report in the afternoon."
Wendy was stunned, and she immediately thought of how uncomfortable he was when she reported to the president in the morning.
"Understood," Wendy said as she nodded.
"But then again, Wendy, you shouldn't have taken so long to report the project. It looks like you still need more time to get used to our company's work ethic." Director Yang said lightly, she then turned and walked away.
Wendy lowered his head. She tried not to let herself think about the deep meaning of her words.
When she got off work in the evening, she took the initiative to stay behind.
She stayed behind until it was dark. When she turned off the lights on her desk she realized it was already eight o'clock
She stood up to leave, only to realize that she was the only one left in the office.
Suddenly she heard a telephone ringing.
It was the phone of the assistant who hadn't been replaced yet.
Wendy hesitated to pick it up. The phone stopped quickly, and then the phone on her desk rang the next second.
"Hello?" Wendy picked it up.
