Chapter 12

Joe could only shrug helplessly on the other side of the phone, but his tone was still as gentle and serious as always, "Director Yang, you know that the president emphasizes efficiency. You can ask your assistant to send the South Bay project up to me. I'll help you report to the president, the Xicheng District project is very important, so I'm going to have to trouble you for a bit." Director Yang breathed a sigh of relief. "Thank you so much. Recently there have been a lot of things—" "It's fine, colleagues should help each other." He hung up the phone after they finished talking. When he raised his head to look at the president's office from his desk, Joe shook his head. It was crazy. He came to the company early in the morning and he asked the maintenance men to deliberately shut down his elevator. He then went down and asked the security guard to spread the news that his elevator broke down and he took the ordinary elevator with someone else. His actions felt too specific, as if he had something in mind. Joe felt curious, so he went to the surveillance office to check the footage. His suspicions were confirmed. The scene came straight out of a soap opera drama. He thought of what it would look like in person and he also thought that Tobias was a hypocrite. Wendy was busy all morning. When she came back from the operations department, she was caught by the director who came out in a hurry. "Ah, Wendy, perfect timing. Forget what you're doing for now, these documents need to go to Assistant Qiao, now go!" Without waiting for Wendy's answer, Director Yang had already returned to her office and she immediately closed the door with loud bang. Wendy glanced at the document, it was the budget of the South Bay project. She left for a snack in the morning and she heard Lena Xiao say that the company was currently focusing on this South Bay project. Her boss looked like she was in a hurry, so she didn't delay either. When she got out of the elevator, she ran into Joe who was about to enter the elevator. As soon as Wendy handed the things over, he said anxiously, "Wendy, I have an important meeting. Just pass the documents to the president and report the budget of each area. Trust me, it's easy." After pushing the file back at her, he entered the elevator and pressed the close button. Wendy stayed there for a few seconds before taking a deep breath. She then walked over to the president's office which wasn't too far away. She straightened herself up and knocked on the door. "Come in," a clear and deep voice came from inside. Wendy felt an inexplicable tremor in her heart. She opened the door and walked in. She bowed her head and said respectfully, "President Lu, Director Yang asked me to send the budget for the South Bay project. Please have a look." Wendy raised his head when she finished speaking, just to see Tobias rubbing his forehead as he was looking at her. His eyes made it a little obvious that he was surprised to see her. He then replied, "Report the results to me." His suit jacket was hung on a golden hanger nearby. He was only wearing a white shirt at the time, his dark green tie was slightly loosened, and his cuffs were also unbuttoned. It made him look easygoing. His still looked handsome and his expression was indifferent as always. She didn't know if it was due to fatigue, but his eyebrows were furrowed up. Wendy thought about Joe's directions, she nodded and then opened the document to read it. "Stop, wait a minute, do you know how to make coffee?" The man suddenly interrupted the report before she began. He leaned back on his chair, his face bathed in the golden sunlight, anyone would think he was a god. He then added, "I just came back from a meeting. I'm a little sleepy. Could you make me a cup of coffee first?" Wendy was surprised, but she saw that he was actually tired. She subconsciously nodded and agreed, "Um… sure." The man nodded apologetically. "I hope I'm not troubling you, Ms. Fang?" "It's Su." Wendy felt a little embarrassed. She should have expected it, how could a powerful man like him remember a low-level employee like her. She didn't know why, but she felt relieved. There was a break room in his office. It was luxurious, which was to be expected from the president's office. It was complete with food and beverages, and it also had a specific shelf just for coffee. She found the coffee machine, she put some coffee grounds in it and turned it on. Afterwards, she went to the refrigerator to find some milk. Brian loved coffee, but she always felt that drinking too much coffee was bad for the health, so she was used to making lattes for him, which was half milk, half coffee. When the latte was finished, Wendy came out of the kitchen with coffee in one hand and a few sugar cubes in the other. She saw the president leaning on the door of the break room. He was staring at the woman who was cautiously carrying coffee in hand. His eyebrows were furrowed from fatigue. Wendy didn't expect that he would come to the kitchen. She also didn't know how long he was standing there. Her hand was shaken with surprise, the coffee was about to spill out, but his hand reached out to her in time. Tobias straightened the hand that was holding the coffee. He touched the little finger of her left hand with his fingers. The feeling passed through her arm and into her heart. Wendy said to him with an embarrassed tone, "Thank you, President."
