Chapter 10

Joe was called down to personally pick someone up and then his boss decided to do a surprise inspection on that same person. He felt that there was something fishy about it, but he decided not to come to any conclusions for now. Tobias didn't answer and the doors slowly closed in front of him. The elevator went up to the top floor, and with a ding the doors opened. The man walked out casually and he walked towards his desk and sat down. There was a moment of silence behind him, and then there were silent tears flowing from his eyes. Tobias had Joe install a camera for him in the room of Wendy's interview. He decided to watch the video, but it wasn't enough. He was there in the same room with her, he walked past her and he realized he wanted more than just that. Since the financial department urgently needed a replacement, they asked Wendy to come to work starting tomorrow. Wendy drove back home with a pleasant feeling. She bought a bouquet of lilies on the road, and she bought a few formal office clothes. After that, she went straight home. When she opened the door, she saw Brian sitting on the sofa. His gaze fell on the large bouquet of lilies on her chest, he then asked in a displeased tone, "Had a date in the morning?" Wendy smiled faintly, she walked towards the flower vase in the corner of the room and she put the lilies inside them. From Brian's perspective, he could see a peaceful sight. She was illuminated by the sunlight outside the window, she was a pure white beauty. He narrowed his eyes and said, "Wendy, don't provoke me with other men. A bunch of flowers is enough to make me lose dignity. I'm disappointed in you." Wendy continued to arrange the flowers in a neatly fashion, as if she didn't hear him. There were footsteps approaching. Wendy felt a pain in her wrist, and in the next second, his sharp eyebrows were in front of her. "You are still my wife. You better behave yourself!" Wendy raised her head and looked at him quietly, his eyes were filled with anger, as if she had done something to offend him, but she only felt irony in this whole situation. "Why? You sent roses to someone else. It's perfectly reasonable for me to receive flowers from someone else." She looked at him with a light stare. She remembered last night's bouquet of roses, and she felt something sharp stab her heart, but her brows and eyes had been tempered with pain. She had already calmed down to the point that she could not feel the sadness in her heart, she didn't feel anger either. Brian pressed his lips tightly, and he suddenly felt that her calm expression was too genuine. He lowered his head and saw that the hand he was holding started to turn red. He slowly loosened his grip and he frowned at her. "Why didn't you come to the company for an interview today?" He asked his company's personnel department. They did conduct a few interviews but her name wasn't on the list. Wendy looked at her red wrist. It was a little painful, but she couldn't compare it to her heart. She laughed at herself. "As you thought, I went to receive flowers from someone else." Wendy shook his hand away and she hit her hand on the glass table with great force. The table created a low humming sound and the hand that was already starting to hurt got injured badly. His eyes had a sudden look of concern. He forcibly grabbed Wendy's hand again. She tried to break free again, but he softened his tone as he said, "Don't move, let me rub it for you." After that, he lowered his head, and gently rubbed the back of Wendy's hand with his soft hands. His lowered head gave an illusion of gentleness. Wendy's eyes were red, but when Brian raised his head again, she had already returned to her calm expression. "I bought these flowers for myself. I did go to an interview this morning, but it wasn't at Gu's. Brian, didn't you warn me a long time ago that you didn't like my presence near your work place?" Brian rubbed the back of her hand for a while, but she then pulled her hand away from him. "Wendy, I apologize for forgetting our wedding anniversary yesterday. If there is something I can do to make up for it I'll do it." Wendy felt disgusted at him. She didn't want to answer him, but she had to try anyway. "Fine then," She nodded and looked at him blankly. "Stay away from Kirsten and I'll accept your apology." "Done." Brian's gaze slowly swept across her tired eyebrows. He made a rare compromise. A smile slowly appeared on his stern face. But he had never smiled once in their one year of marriage. Wendy felt slightly uncomfortable with him. She then glanced at her hands in silence. Her hands were being held by Brian for only a moment. Her hands have waited for so long for his gentle touch, but the only time they received it was a whole year ago during their wedding. He took her hand and put the ring on her finger and he promised he would make her happy for all her life. "I wanted to tell you, but I was afraid you'd misunderstand. There is nothing between me and Kirsten. She helped with a big project through her own connections. I just wanted to thank her," he said as he looked into her eyes seriously. "I'll transfer her to the project department if you still feel uncomfortable."
