I was in a daze as I listened to their conversation. Suddenly, I was reminded of Summer’s words.
She said that Dixon had a best buddy who was assassinated. The information coincided with the florist’s words. Were they pointing to the same person?
“Jasmine, you’re too hard-headed.”
“Dixon, I’ll go back to Wu City if he brings me back personally. There will be no ‘otherwise’. Stop wasting your time.”
My conscience was eating me away for eavesdropping, and just as I was about to leave the place, Dixon suddenly turned around.
“Carol, why are you here?” He was in shock to see me.
“I bought a rose stalk,” I explained.
The floral boutique owner heard me and instructed, “Dixon, this lady asked for roses. Would you get the one in the store for her?”
Dixon nodded and responded, “Mm.”
Off he went into the floral boutique. He retrieved a stalk of rose and handed it to me. I paid him, but he refused my payment.
I did not insist on paying nor quarrelling with him over the tens of dollars
