2 Taking the blame
I shrieked, trying to push him away but he didn’t budge. As he continued to kiss me, hot tears began to flow from my eyes.
When the tears touched his skin, he pulled away and looked down at me. He could see he had taken this too far. He had never seen me crying before and the look on his face turned to guilt. He ran his cold hands over my hair and pulled me into a tight hug.
“I’m sorry. I never mean to hurt you!” He whispered as my body began to tremble in his hands. He pulled me closer and buried his head into my shoulder, sniffing my scent into his nostrils.
“I’m sorry. I am really really sorry. Now stop crying, please.” He cupped my face and looked at me like I was the most adorable thing he had ever seen.
“Don’t cry, I was only trying to profess my love to you. You are my mate.” He mumbled.
Mate? The word mate sounded foreign in my ears right now. It didn’t even register to me the first place because of the sudden kiss. Now that he repeated the word again, the tears flowed non-stop.
He was my mate? How come? I never expected my sister’s fiancé to be my mate. I could feel an unfamiliar feeling in me that was pulling me closer to him. It was the mating bond.
I bit my lips with nervousness as I looked down unable to meet his eyes.
“Please stop crying.”
He cradled me into his chest, hugging me tightly. “How about I make it up to you? I will take you to the beach tomorrow.”
“Are you going to stop crying?” He whispered.
When I heard footsteps, I pulled away quickly and wiped the tears. Raising my head, I saw some maids walking through the corridor and placing lanterns to light up the place.
I used that opportunity to run away. I continued to walk far away from him until I crashed into someone, Katherine. She looked at me with a frown on her face. Her lips tugged up with disgust.
“You!” She glowered at me with hateful eyes. “This was all your fault, aren’t you happy now? You got what you want..... He cancelled the wedding.”
“Katherine......” I called out, surprised that she was putting the blame on me. “I tried to convince him but—”
“Shut up!” Katherine’s eyes lit up with hot blaze. “You could have taken the blame. You could have told Aiden that Jack was your mate and not my mate, why did you ruin my relationship? Why?!”
“So you knew him?” I frowned. “You called his name. He is Jack, your mate?”
“Yes, he is my mate and I love him the same way I love Aiden. I have been seeing him a couple of times now but when I told him about my wedding with Aiden, he was angry and threatened to cancel the wedding. I thought he was joking, only for him to come to the wedding and—”
Before she could finish, I slapped her hard across her cheek. Because of her, King Aiden had tried to take advantage of me. If not that he had seen my tears, I could never imagined what he would have done to me.
In all my life, I had respected Katherine as my elder sister and even when she beats me in public I take it in as discipline. But what she did today, infuriated me. All this time I thought she was innocent but she was the one seeing the man.
In a quick movement, Katherine who was much stronger than me pushed me against the wall. She had awakened her wolf at an early age of fifteen unlike me who is eighteen and haven’t awoken yet.
The force of my back against the wall, made me to wince in pain. I cried out as the excruciating pain traveled throughout my whole body.
I fell onto the ground as I gasped for air. Before I could heal from the pain on my back, she pulled my leg and twisted it. This made me cry more as there was no one to help me. The corridor was quiet with no maids in here and King Aiden had probably gone to the library downstairs to read some books.
Why was I even thinking of him to help me? Katherine and King Aiden has no shame in them. They do things as they please without thinking of the feelings of others.
I continued to cry for help as Katherine bent my leg harder. I was sure that I would not be able to use my leg again if Katherine let me go now.
“If you had use your brains at the wedding it wouldn’t have ended like this for us. I see you like dust underneath my feet even though we share the same blood. You are nothing to me and I despised you a lot.” She turned my leg harder, making more tears fall down from my eyes.
“Don’t shout. Even though you scream and cry, no one would help you.” Katherine frowned, looking down at me.
“Please I’m in pains! Let go of my leg!” I pleaded for her to let go of my leg.
“I thought you were the strong one?” She scoffed. “Moments ago you had the audacity to slap me!”
“It is true that papa and mama didn’t teach you how to behave to elders. You are only going to disgrace and put me to shame.” She spat. “Only if I could sell you out to someone who might get married to you. I cannot tell how much it worries me seeing you here everyday. If not of Aiden’s concern of keeping you in this castle with me, you would have been in the streets.”
She let go of my leg. “You should know that you do not belong here in this castle. Living the life of luxury is not for someone like you.”
The insults was too much and I could not take in more but with my leg hurting me so bad, I knew I won’t be able to fight back.
“Follow me now!” She ordered and started to walk. I could not stand up or even raise a finger.
When she turned around to see me still lying on the cold floor, her brows furrowed. “I said follow me now!”
I tried to get on my feet but I ended up falling back. She walked up to me and grabbed my hair. The pain in my head caused a pounding headache that made me push her with all my strength.
She staggered, almost falling on the ground. She held the rails of the staircase to stop her from falling. Once she was back on her feet, she slapped me. I could feel my cheek turn warm and I know it was red at this point.
The slap was so hard that it caused a bruise at the corner of my lips. She stepped closer and slapped me again.
At this, my body refused to move an inch. I had no strength left in me. I was weak and my whole body was in pains.
Slowly, my eyes closed and my body was pulled into the world of darkness.
