I quickly rushed over to her and grabbed her arm tightly to stop her, shooting her an incredulous look when she turned to face me. “Lydia, what the hell? You can’t go into the forest at this time.”
She tried to shrug me off, but I held firm because ghosts always came out at night. Not just one or two, but several, and they always wandered around in the forest; it was only a couple of them that ended up wandering onto campus. And it was almost midnight now, so several violent ghosts would be out too. Everyone knew that, but she still wanted to go into the forest, so I just held tighter as she tried to wrench her arm from my grasp.
“Let me go!” When that didn’t work, she growled at me and ground out, “The school is lying to us. Chelsea didn’t leave!” I thought the same, so I opened my mouth to ask why she thought that, but her lip trembled as she stared out at the forest, still struggling to get out of my grip. “What if she’s hurt or worse? I have to find her.”
